• okay...I'm ready to shop

I now have $460 to spend - and I've never actually owned a "jackson" before. I owned a Charvel 375 deluxe at one time, but that's my only experience.

There isn't a Jackson dealer in my area for almost 3 hours in every direction. I would appreciate any suggestions on a good buy as far as current Jackson imports go.

Things like pickups, whammy bar(a must have), and necks, basically any info you guys would like to share would be appreciated.

As far as music style...I like Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Def Leppard, and Megadeth...

I appreciate any comments/questions

You might consider a DKMG; it has a whammy, and the EMG-HZ pickups aren't bad. Plus it has a reverse headstock like the ESPs Chris DeGarmo used to play. I have a DKMGT (non-trem version of the DKMG), and I think it is a killer axe for the money.

I think DK-2s are in that price range as well. I don't know a lot about those, however.

As far as I know, there are a few different whammy-bar MIJ Jacksons that are in your price range.

What body shape do you like the best? Are you a fan of Dinkys? Kellys? Vs?

Go for a used PC-3. I believe there are a couple on the bay right now in your price range. They are awesome for the money. The chlorine blue ones are cool looking, too. Being a Def Lepp fan, you should like those, right?

I'm pretty fond of the Dinky/Soloist body style...I also am pretty fond of the reverse headstock/binding/dinky body on the DXMG

Pickup configuration I don't really mind...I've actually been feeling somewhat torn between the DK-2 and the DXMG...but I don't know the pros and cons precisely

Stick with the Charvel brand. You have plenty for a clean Model 6. If you find a good one it will be better in performance and quality than most of the Jacksons you'll find in the same price range.

Wes,
My 1st Jackson was a DKMG. Then I bought 8 million USA Jacksons and the DKMG never gets played anymore. I'll sell it to you if you want it. Bought it at Guitar Center in St Louis last year for a hair over 500. I think list was in the low 800's. It's black forest (really dk green), has the EMG-hz w/20 boost pull pot. Some kind of Jackson licensed by trem that stays in tune pretty well, no scratches or buckle rash, hardshell Jackson case, wrenches, etc. I only used it at about 5 band rehearsals before I bought all the USAs. Email me at [email protected] if you want it. I'll post it in the Classifieds as well.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Exactly what I was thinking, a Mod 6 with case. In the long run maybe an OFR and Duncans, then you´ve got your soloist, just a tad different

Re: okay...I\'m ready to shop

Okay...I've definitely narrowed my parameters...to either a DXMG or a DK2. I like both, but the differences aren't that apparent. I've always liked the option of single coils, but I like 2 humbuckers as well. Reverse headstock or regular I don't mind - they both have sharkfins(a must)...the DK2 has the upper hand on color options, but It doesn't have black hardware(which I prefer, and you can't seem to buy).

I read that the neck is thicker on the DXMG, but that it's not that big of a deal. Does anyone own both of them? That may be my best input, especially where the neck thickness is concerned.
