• Jackson/Ibanez

Hey there guys. I have been thinking about adding yet another guitar to my collection. I have a few Charvels a San Dimas RR V #0480!! and I have a bunch of Ibanez guitars as well. I really love them both for differant reasons so there is not going to be a Jackson Ibanes fight at my house! What I'm thinking about is one of the MF deals : the SLSMG here

Or the Ibanez here

Both neck through and really purdy. Both are made over seas and are therefore cheaper than the US ones. I played one of the Jacksons in Guitar center and wasn't too impressed but it was dirty and not set up well at all and I wasn't sure about the thinness of the body. Haven't found the Ibanez yet to try but I have a few bolt on around.
What's your take here? Did I just get a bad Jackson/setup? How do these compare in your thoughts? I really want them both but if I did that....... um anyone have an extra room? Wife would kill

Normally, this would be tough, but the RGT42 is MIK, while the Jackosn has nicer features (ebony board, pickups) and is MIJ. I'd go with the SLSMG, definitely. Now, if you move up to the MIJ Prestige RGT3120 (which, btw, you can get for about the same price as the Jackson right now, if you shop around), things would be a lot harder.

Thanks. I was actually looking at the rgt3120 but I can't find it for under a grand and only in purple and orange/natural. I really like the red I'm a bit hesitant to get a guitar with such a thin body as well. I wish I could try them side by side however I haven't seen either of the Ibanezs in any of the local shops

If it's a mahogany body, the thinassity is not an issue. I've got a Japanese-market Soloist with a thin mahogany body and it sings like a bird - I'd say if they put it out here, they could give PRS and the Ibenhad Prestige a pretty good run for their money; easy to play and wonderful tone. If it had a nice quilted top or a better flame, it'd be all over

As for the one at Guitar Center - the thing to remember is that most retail outlets hire salesmen, not musicians, so they don't know how to maintain a guitar unless it says USA on the head, and even then it has to say Gibson, Fender, or PRS.

That neck-thru Ibanez is fairly decent, and I think it's worth the price.

That neck-thru-import Jackson also looks cool, and to no surprise only the playground bully known as MF was able to get it, and below the cost of normal Jackson import neck-thru's too.

Ethically I'd get the Ibanez because it can be had anywhere besides MF. It's also cheaper than the Jackson. No doubt MF shoved a lot of weight around to get the kinds of features Jackson wasn't going to do on any more imports, like the binding on neck-thru's and black hardware, and for $200 less than a regular Jackson neck-thru import too.

I really do like the Jackson more, but I just don't like the seller's business ethics at all. Why the hell is MF allowed to sell a neck-thru import that's better than the regular ones for less than what regular ones do sell for, even elshwhere, while no thanks to them other sites can't even advertise their lowest price for regular neck-thru imports without MF crying foul? So other sites can't advertise $899 for a regular import neck-thru without biding and other features, but MF can advertise $799 for an exclusive with binding and more features? Double-standard!!

I'm not a big fan of body binding, pirhana inlays, or the SLS headstock, so I do not find that SLSMG very appealing. In my opinion put a pointy, sharkfins, and no body binding and It would look much better. I'm not an Ibanez fan so I would say go for the SLSMG if you like its appearance. The lousy setup was most likely a GC thing, it should play much better with a proper setup.
KV DM PRO, SLSXMG, RRXMG, DXMG, LP P90 Goldtop_GSP1101_RM4: JF SL-OD100_Randall RT2/50_Peavey 4x12 cab
I'm loving the Jaded Faith mods. Going Egnater Dual mod route: Voxless, SL-OD100, Brahma #39, QuickMod GT

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yeah, I'd love to have the REAL Jackson headstock on it. I don't like the 3+3 too much.I realy like the archtop imports Jackson has but they all have the damn reverse headstock I HATE that
I'm kinda screwed unless I spend the jillion dollars on a custom but the streets are so cold this time of year.
