I find that the JB is brighter than the Distortion. The Distortion overdrives the amp more and has a bit more edge in the bottom end. The JB has more mids. Both are high output and very harmonically rich. I would suggest a JB in a darker tone wood like mahogony whereas the Distortion sounds right at home in the poplar/alder type of woods. I have no experience with either in basswood.

In my SL1 I have two Hot Rails and a Invader . The SL2H has the stock 59/JB combo but have a Duncan Custom on order.The Model 88 has a EMG 81 in for now.

Hmm, I seem to have forgotten a guitar... my only USA Jackson is a JJP with a DiMarzio Super Distortion. [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

I mainly use EMGs (85s as a preference - I know everyone else likes 81s but they just sound dead to my ears) and factory fitted Duncans. EMGs are the only pickups I'll bother to retro-fit. I've put Duncans in things and they just haven't had the effect I wanted. Mind you, one of the critisisms of EMGs is they sound the same whatever you put 'em in - for what it's worth, I don't think that's true, but it's all personal isn't it?
