Budman is correct it a name of a company Nitrous Oxide Systems.It seems that only the kids that are into the import car scene pronounce is NAWWS(nos). Thanks in part to the fast and the furious movies.

Actually the stuff gear heads (like me) and others are refering to should not actually be said as a word 'noss' it is just an acronym for Nitrous Oxide Systems Inc. So all the little ricers got a little confused and now everybody says it wrong. N.O.S.
