The diamond plate on the Guitarxpress RHY guitars is aluminum.
Also figure that those plates are cut precisely, and countersunk, then anodized.
You could save a few bucks by doing it yourself, but unless you were gonna make a dozen sets and sell the remainders off, you're not going to save much at all.
