Re: RR LTD\'s - Prototype and Original Run

God bless you Brett, for posting this stuff. I would gladly ejaculate on either guitar.

Remember that blue LTD-style custom shop rhoads that was ebay a few months ago? Which of these did that one more closely resemble?

No thanks.

Brett

PS - I'm in the buying mode, so if you have anything cool for sale (USA Jacksons and Lynch ESP's), email me.

Re: RR LTD\'s - Prototype and Original Run

Great thread! I'm glad to see this subject started and to see my old LTD next to a Shannon!

I know alot of people don't like the fact that the LTD's aren't that close to the original but they are still smoking guitars!

It was VERY interesting to see the comparisons.

I'd love to have either one of them!
How many of the Shannon's and LTD's and JCF's were made?

I just wanna know my odds of getting one of these someday. I'd really like the Shannon to go with my Shannon Soloist! That would be sweet. Kinda like family members.

Very nice collection bro!!!!

Hey Brett,
Don't forget the different truss rod covers and the different RR lettering on each one...
And they play completely different too...

Cool pics my friend....

Re: RR LTD\'s - Prototype and Original Run

There were only 6 or 7 of the Shannon Rhoads made. So the chances of finding one is probably about zero. They sell for big bucks as well, I wouldn't hazard a guess as to what Brett paid for his, but when Rob Lane sold his, he was asking $8K and that was 5 years ago...I would think that this is one of, if not THE, rarest Jackson made.

Absolutely beautiful!!

The Shannons are closest to the original that's for sure. Still not exact, but, definitely the closest.

I'm building a exact (body) replica & just finding the original parts has proven to be so difficult you almost have to make some slight changes, just so the thing doesn't cost 5 grand to make. Here it is slowly nearing completion (minus paint, wiring & correct tuners):

I love the binding over the fret-edges too!!

What is this costing you to build and what are the most pricey parts???

Thanks!
So far in materials it's cost me about $675 or so.

[*]1. I've had to substitute the trem with a gold Wilkinson (which is a fantastic trem - I've found out with this project) because the original Charvel/APM/Kahler bridges are, at the very least, as hard to come by as NOS Les Pauls under elderly peoples beds.

2. I replaced the bone nut with Slipstone, which looks exactly like bone but a million times more slippery.

3. The fretwire is jumbo because I'm not Randy & can't use those small Dunlop 6230 frets and I wanted this to be playable.

4. Also, the neck pickup is, basically, an Ibanez V7 without the logo.

5. Obviously the tuners are not going to be the old "crown" Gotohs like Randys because those things are practically worth their weight in gold when you do find them.
I've had Sully & a few other folks help me out on occasion with little details along the way too with that extra eye for authenticity.

wow that is great work, but are you sure you want to put a wilkinson on it? A brass vintage trem can be found.

..nevermind...I guess it's too late Didn;t see the 2nd page of pictures. Excellent work!

I may build another one dead-on to Randy's original eventually, but it'll take a while collecting parts...
