• Is Jackson/Charvel only good for...

Hello guys, sometimes I wonder if Jackson/Charvel guitars are only good for METAL ??? It seems that every time I've heard or seen someone play a Jackson/Charvel guitar, it has something to do with METAL , it's not that I don't like metal, it's just that I get tired of it sometimes. And everytime I mention a Jackson guitar, someone always brings up Heavy Metal music or the 80's. It's like Jackson is just a "metal-to-the-pedal" type of guitar. By the way, I'm wondering if I should even get a Jackson/Charvel guitar as my 1st "real" guitar, considering that it does "seem" to be suited for just METAL and nothing else, lately I've been having G.A.S for an Ibanez RG550 (which is Japanese also) instead of a Jackson guitar . It seems that A LOT!!! of guys here at the JCF are metal, and metal ONLY . Please don't crucify me like Jesus for my opinions, be Friendly and open NOW !!! I'm just wondering, can Jackson's be suited for other things BESIDES metal??? Can you guys give me suggestions on what pick-up combinations I could have for a H/S/H guitar (Jackson PS-4) that would make the guitar very versatile for Metal, Hard/Soft Rock, Jazz, Fusion, and "everything-in-between"!?!?!? I've been having a very hard time deciding on whether I should get Seymour Duncan's or DimarZio's, can you guys help me with that TOO??? Can you guys also tell me what sound that I'm supposed to expect from each manufacturer??? And one last thing, how is the Jackson PS-4 from the Performer Series(Made in Japan of course, not the India crap ), because I plan on buying one off of eBay because of the H/S/H layout???

Jackson can be used for many different styles of Music.
If it has neck pickup, it can do some Jazz,Blues,Fusion.
If you split the humbuckers with mini switch or Push/pull knob,it can get very clean sound.
I think it has more to do with what amps you use and what your playing style is, not the guitars you play.

In school we watched this film about Siri-Lanka, and there was a local band who played a mix of african, reagy and other local native music.
The guitarist had a black Jackson Dinky

IMO, the guitars are very versatile soundwise. To me though, they just look perfectly suited for the heavy stuff. You can play country on them if you want with the right pick-ups and amp.

They are a "Metal" guitar.
I can't play anything except Metal on my Jacksons.

My jacksons have been used for everything from George Jones to Slayer, Your jacksons are only as useful as you are, If you can only play metal than that's what they do, but if you have to knock out a Garth Brooks song, they'll do that too.

For your info, Buckethead happened to play a country song with his Jackson KFC Red/White Custom King V when he was with GnR.

I play all kinds of stuff on my "rock/metal" electric guitars. And then I go ahead and play metal on my acoustic guitars...

Sure, it looks weird to do fingerstyle on my Jackson KE3 downtuned to D and installed with EMG pickups, but it sounds nice.

I used to think that I needed other kinds of guitars for other kinds of music, but it's not true. I think they are labeled "metal guitars" because of their look and rightfully so, but that only makes it more cool when you country or pop musicians using Jacksons. Jackson seems to be in the spotlight these days.

true it's going to be difficult to make a Jackson/Charvel guitar sound like a Gibson Birdland Jazz guitar, but if that is the sound you are looking for then Buy one of those!. My sl2H sounds very nice for jazz (through the right amp and with heavier strings on it) the player is really going to dictate the sound (along with the amp) My SL2H and my h/s/s Jacksons and Charvels are very versatile. I think they just got branded as metal guitars becuase so many shredders use them, Oh and they're awesome metal guitars (duh)
