Where do you hear this? DiMarzio has the Virtual Vintage and PAFs as examples of vintage-style pickups. Duncan has the Invader, Dimebucker, and massive-output LiveWire series as examples of ultra-modern super-high-gain pickups.

I know there are exceptions, but I was making a generalization.

I don't mind the old be-bop and hard-bop stuff. I don't like jazz guitar - except Jim Hall. Don't take it personal, it's just a preference, I'm not saying jazz is gay or anything like that, well then again ... LOL!

A Duncan Invader is hardly yesteryear. Both companies have a good range of pickups for most players. For me, I happen to prefer Dimarzio AirZone, DropSonic, and Tone Zone - Duncan-wise Alnico Pro II's & JB's.

DiMarzios have a really modern sound, Seymour Duncans are more for recreating the sounds of yesteryear.

Also, since the Jackson I want has a Floyd Rose, can you guys tell me ALL the cool things you can do with a trem , it would be nice if you could post sound clips of you guys doing something with the bar ??? I already know that tuning & intonation can be a problem for the 1st few times and all , but I'm willing to accept that since I want to do all that crazy whammy bar stuff like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani (Satch) !!!

a friens of mine has an ibanez J-custom with AN - TZ and blue velvet in between. I think it sounds very very good, very versatile indeed, and very warm. I'm not sure if it's just the pickups though cuz the J-custom is made of mahogany with maple cap so it could be this that makes that warm tone.

Jacksons are versatile, although there is no doubt they do metal best, the pickups, choice of woods, the way the necks are made, etc. If your playing is together, you should be able to pick up a Jackson and sound like "yourself" even if that means something other than metal. Jacksons are just as versatile as other "super strats" like Ibanez, etc. although not really as versatile as say a Fender Fat Srat with H-S-S.

However, you would look a little retarded playing Grunge with a Jackson for example. Come to think of it, I think anyone playing grunge looks retarded. There is something very precise and focused about the Jackson image, somewhat like a weapon LOL. Very un-alternative guitars, that's one of the reasons I love them so much.
