Re: In memory of

The first time I ever heard Randy Rhoads.

I was at my cousin Steve's house in Florida, NY for sunday dinner. When in came Steve with a small black cassette radio. Steve, without deley asked "Hey, did you hear Ozzy's new album." I said "no, I haven't yet. "Check this out", said Steve.

So me, my cuz, and my brother sat down on the edge of a couch and Steve hit 'play'on his small portable cassette player.
As we sat there, an emergence started with the first song. Very Cool! Then the guitar started with it's enormous intro and sound, we listened without saying a word. Communicating with just huge smiles
After the solo I yelled out to him. Who is this playing the guitar?? He said, "Someone named Randy Rhoads" I said "Wow, that is awesome!!, Lets hear more."
So we did, the whole album, before dinner, after dinner and the rest of the night.
I was just thirteen years old and just started playing the guitar. From that point on, my guitar practicing and playing took on a whole different purpose.
In my Life, I have lost two very inspiring and influential people.
My Beloved Mom (4 mo.ago)and Randy Rhoads.
GOD BLESS!!!

Thank-you, J.

Re: In memory of

i wasnt even born when randy died, so you can imagine what my influences were when i first started playing (im 19 now) I was more of a kurt cobain player, but ever since i started listening to metal about 5 years ago, randy rhoads has been a common name. I recently spend every penny that i have on an RR5, white with black pin stripes, and i dedicate it to Randy Rhoads.

Re: In memory of

I was lucky enough to see Randy Rhoads play on the Diary Of A Madman tour on January 2nd, 1982, just about three months before that horrible accident, and me and my buddy sat out front of a general admission line alllll damn day, just to make sure we could get right in front of Randy as close as we could. (Luckily once we got in the arena, we chose the correct side of the stage to be standing in front of, as we didn't know what side he tended to play on.) But while Eddie Van Halen was exciting to me at the time, it was definitely Randy who was my guitar idol, my guitar God who I looked up to more than any other player, hands down. I think it's great that over 20 years on now since his passing, and he is still such a huge influence on guitar players still, especially since his entire legend stems from 'Blizzard' and 'Diary Of A Madman'....I was never so struck down by ANY famous person's passing like I was his; it brings back memories of disbelief when some of my other guitar playing buddies came up to my house to tell me what happened. What a wonderful part of learning how to play guitar that Randy was, for me. Thanks for the Tribute, and kudos to you, for you brought back a lot of old fond memories that could use the dusting off again.... Randy lives on, regardless...

Re: In memory of

I want to thank everyone for the great memories. When I posted the link I had kind of a quiet rememberance thing in mind (mood at that time, ya know), I had no idea so many would post their stories and memories. I have actually enjoyed coming here every few hours and reading the posts more then I enjoyed putting the web site together. It's funny, I post on a few other sites also, as I'm sure some others here do, and I put that link on all those web sites as well. The JCF is the only place where people have taken the time to pass memories and moments along to the other fans.

No prob,as weird as this sounds I kinda enjoy this time of year because it'a all about Randy for a little while...and I gotta say I really enjoy the fact that there are all these younger players getting into his music...it kinda keeps him alive if you know what I mean.

If there is another one someone wants scanned let me know.

Re: In memory of

> I was 12 when Randy was killed. I had just got done listening to Blizzard, and turned the radio on. Back at this time, taping songs off the radio was the best way to get new stuff. I switched over to the rock station, and taped Whole Lotta Love, then I listened to this awesome Ozzy song I had never heard at that point(S.A.T.O. by the way),and the DJ made the announcement that Randy had been killed. I didn't even know Randy was the guitarist at the time,I got Blizzard for Christmas and just jammed, never really paying much attention to it. A few days later, way before I ever picked up a guitar,I had my mom buy a copy of Guitar World, because in the centerfold was a pic of his 2 original RR's. I still have it,along with a semifunctional cassette with the announcement on it. There are also MP3's of the announcement from different radio stations floating around. Tommy D.
