But a point was made earlier and I hope you can respect it ... there are a lot of hard working people building Charvel guitars with a lot of love and passion, and I would not want to downplay their role in the end result ... which is a well made, very playable and beautiful instrument.

I agree 100%. I would love nothing more than to work in a guitar factory. Hell, just let me hammer frets in and I'd be a happy man.

...and as far as the "handmade" issue...if you like the playability of the necks, what does it matter?...if charvel could (theoretically) make you a strathead with a machine that played wonderfully for under a grand, would you turn it down because it wasn't hand made?...i wouldn't...d.m.

Of course, I think his point was that, since they are "machine produced", they should be cheaper. If it was under $1K, I don't think he'd be holding it to the same standard.

Not saying I agree with that. I'm just saying that's what I get from his argument.

Personally, I would pay the EVH price (or possibly more) for a strathead in which I got to pick the components (i.e. a custom shop instrument).

There is a LOT of marketing going on here. It is no accident that a VH best of CD appeared sporting a long unused red/white/black stripe symbol.Reassociate with an image. And a couple months later ol' Ed is back to an 'original hotrod' make of guitar with the same symbol. The decision to go back to a striped charvel was marketing. VH makes a comback...Eddie playing a Wolfgang is called VH on tour. VH playing a striped hot rod is more than just VH on tour... it's the 80's again!!! Nothing is an accident. They know whose pockets the $$$ they want are in and how to get them. Once this all wears off though... it is a big decision whether or not these guitars are worth it. They are a collectability risk, from an investment standpoint. You don't want to be staring at the $2500 thing a year from now wishing it was an Anderson, now that VH left town and you are stuck with the guitar. It most definitely is a fairly ordinary instrument from a build/materials standpoint. I wouldn't say it's a good or bad decision to buy one, just be aware of what's going on here.

i understand the point...what i don't understand is why people think that these guitars are "machine-made"...even prs uses cnc machines to rough cut their products...and we all know what their prices look like...it basically comes down to a matter of personal choice...i see no reason to blast a company (any company for that matter) for charging prices they feel are justifiable for their products...if the people feel they are not being treated fairly, they will buy something else...when all is said and done, i think it's pretty amazing that fmic even listens to us (much less actually participates in the forum)...sure we have a lot of members but i seriously doubt we are the only people out there that buy and play charvel and jackson guitars...they have gone out of their way (within reason) to make the people on this board happy...i attended namm last summer on their ticket so i could bring two stratheads for them to check out...so they are trying their best for us...all i ask is that we cut them some slack...d.m.

I'm gonna have to go with the $1.59 EVH corndog. It's handmade, well sorta.

I don't care how they are built just as long as they feel, look, play and sound great

I think its great that these EVH's are out, $2500+ is worth it and I'm not even into the whole VH paint job We all wanted this so lets not whine about prices or manufacturing processes. There are a lot of guitars of lesser quality that cost more that what these will go for. Just my opinion...
