Re: Anthrax and Jackson

They'll be even cooler now that Frank Bello left the band (he was always cool and a pretty good bass player). I hear Joey Vera is now playing bass on their tour, and he rules!!! Not sure if Joey is a full-time member now or what, as he seems to take on a lot of projects.

Frankie left?? Crap! All my allies in that band are gone! Joey (whom I went to high school with and jammed many a time), Danny (turned me onto a ferocious guitar sound very simply-a bud and fellow gear whore), and now Frankie (Mr 240 volt himself-I've never seen a person actually BE everywhere at once!)
Oh well...I'm so out of the loop anyhoo!

Yeah, I just only heard it recently, like a week or so ago. I think I read it online somewhere, too. Not sure why he left, but I know he wanted to do some acting and some modeling or something awhile ago.

I felt the same way when I heard Frankie had left (maybe not as deeply as you though, Chuck) I only found out about it recently too.

I never really got into post-Joey Anthrax.
I love the old albums - "State of Euphoria" and "Among the Living" are among my favourites. I strongly associate the name Anthrax with Joey's voice - just as I associate John's voice with Armoured Saint. Even though Anthrax still play good clean metal, it just doesn't feel like Anthrax to me.

Yeah, that's exactly how I feel. I had strong ties to the band in the day, and of course change is always tough.
I honestly stopped listening after they fucked Joey.
Armed and Dangerous and Among The Living are THE two for me.

Eh, I loved old Anthrax (even when Neil Turbin sang before Joey, and Danny Lilker on bass) but I always liked John's voice better for some reason. Joey came back a few years ago and did a duet with John on a greatest hits package or something (some oldies song that I can't remember now). Joey was supposed to tour with them but dropped out because he felt he wasn't getting enough money, he basically screwed the fans over. I still haven't bought the last two Anthrax albums anyway, Volume 8 and We've Come For You All. Still a kick-ass band, though.

Re: Anthrax and Jackson

Joey backed out of that tour because Scott and Charlie (aka: Anthrax) decided at the 11th hour that Joey didn't need to get paid at all! He was apparently supposed to be happy to be there or some shit. Joey was persuing his own stuff and was to put that on hold to tour with Anthrax singing just a couple songs a night. Scott/Charlie figured they were doing him a huge favor so they didn't need to pay him. True story.

Hmm. There's two sides to every story. I heard Anthrax say that Joey wanted too much money, but whatever. They're dicks if they really didn't want to pay him. Oh well.

Re: Anthrax and Jackson

Scott Ian was my main influence on my rhythm playing moreso than any other guitar player, from the 'Armed And Dangerous' thru the 'State Of Euphoria' years. And I knew and hung out with Joey Belladonna when he was off tour and would come into Phoenix to visit his parents (around the 'Among The Living' and 'State Of Euphoria' time period), and he told me that Anthrax was just something he was doing to get his name out there, and that what he REALLY wanted to play, was music more like your average Journey-style band;(this confession, just after letting me hear the brand-new 'Among The Living' album already finished, but still a month away from release). He told me that he really didn't hang out too much with the rest of the band even back then, and I had read the other Anthrax guys in interviews, saying much the same thing as well, so they already weren't going to be long for this world with Joey on vocals. (Later after being out of Anthrax, Joey finally released his Journey-style solo album titled, 'Belladonna', and it was just freaking AWFUL ... C'est la vie'!

His whole band for that album was a local band called Sacred Death. I didn't hear much Journey in there, but then again it's so terrible to this day I cannot get past the first two or three tracks.

It's true his heart wasn't into thrash and he was using Anthrax as a vehicle. Smart move, really, casue there are't many other ways out of Oswego NY!

I gonna look him up when I get back, kick him in the ass once or twice. Just get him drunk...he'll agree to anything!

the not guitar was an ESP, its only fretted to the 12th fret, its now hanging up at the Hard Rock Cafe in NYC, along with Dan Spitz's white rhoads with the comic book character graphics on it.

I'll post some pics of them that I took a while back when I was there.
