I was just at GC and saw a used guitar that looked a lot like a white Model 2, but with a single-coil neck pickup. The manager mentioned it was some Canadian brand and that the guys in Iron Maiden has used them at some point. It looked so much like a Charvel that it even had a Charvel case. Can't remember the brand name. Does this ring a bell with anybody? If so, are they as bad as the other clones out there?

Re: Ever heard of this?
If it's an older Lado it's probaby decent. However, just recently they whored out the name, and were importing some garbage from Korea. I looked at a couple of the Korean made guitars a few months back, and they looked awesome (sort of PRS style), and were pretty well made, but the fret work was atrocious. I mean it was really bad!!!
There's also another possibility. It could be a Larrivee. They are known for making acoustics, but for a short time they made electrics, and they were awesome guitars. I had a RR V type thing (called a voodoo), neck thru with ebony board. I regret ever selling it.

Re: Ever heard of this?
It's most likely a Lado Hawk. My bass player has one, but I've never played it, so I can't offer an opinion. I'll ask him about it when I get a chance. Is there no logo on the headstock? I assume it is single hum with a Floyd.
As far as telling the good from the bad, just play it. It can't be a Korean made guitar, because Hawks haven't been made for years.
