Re: great discovery, I call: revolution

thanks for your comments guys
this means that it should be a SD custom bass with wished s#
or the guy that marked the date did wrong, cause he wanted to write 9-1-86 maybe?
could it then still be a SD?
you guys put me at ease with your "anything was possible in the 80ies" comments
so i´d like to confirm it with the log
but as far as i know, there is no way to do that at the moment
correct me if i´m wrong, and plaese tell me the current contact to "the keeper of the log" then
thanks again guys, it´s always cool to share thoughts and stories with you

Jackson has the logs and work orders. The only outside people with any log info is Rob Witte. He has the first 1000 neckthrough J numbers and some Rhoads numbers as well. Last I knew he had no bolt on numbers.

Re: great discovery, I call: revolution

Another thing to keep in mind is that they probably did necks and bodies in batches. 50 to a batch maybe? By the looks of the SD shop photos I've seen, that would be about right.

Anyhoo, they made a hell of a lot more guitars than basses, so if they made a batch of 50 P-bass bodies and necks, it's totally likely that they would set for many months before being used. Therefore totally likely that bodies and necks, along with neckplates, phsically made in SD would be carried to Ontario in the move and used some time later.

Your basses body was made in San Dimas and assembled in Ontario many months later where it was assigned that w/o number. There is nothing unusual about the numbers or the dates.

That is a great theory Chuck! That could also explain my guitar as well. They likley made a couple of Floyd bodies and necks in a batch and seeing most guitars ordered at the time came with Kahlers, some Floyd bodies and necks probably sat around a little while until an order came in to use them.

True. It does make more sense regarding basses, since so few were made.

that´s exactly what i thought first

BUT Rob writes at jacksonmuseum that they switched manufacturing from SD to Ont in late 86 early 87
(it´s in the pages evolution / project-wo-ser#)

so how can there be a date 1-9-86 be made in Ontario?
that is what confuses me about it

and how could an early 86 date (jan 9th) match to a late 86 wo#(9771) is another unsolved question

seems to be a hard nut to break
thanks for helping me to clear it up

Re: great discovery, I call: revolution

Just because the facilities changed doesn't mean they threw all of the old parts stock away. It was simply moved to the new building and used when they needed them.

Andy, I don't know why you are not understanding what we are telling you, other than perhaps you don't want to understand and would prefer to believe you have made some "great discovery" and your bass is "revolutionary".

I'm sure it is nice, but it is neither a "great discovery", nor is it "revolutaionary". Pay attention to what we are trying to explain to you and think about it.

ARRGH!! I give up.

sorry chuck
i didn´t know that i did something wrong
maybe the title of the thread or something..
i know now the bass is nothing special
but i still had some things not cleared in my head..
i just wanted to understand the things i asked you
i always thought understanding was a kind of process in asking, getting answered and asking back; what do you tell your children when they ask you over and over again to understand the same thing..?
there were (and are) still things in this case i do not understand so i kept explaining my thoughts
so if this is what i did wrong? big sorry
maybe i used the wrong words cause i´m not a native speaker of English as you are
but i thought you didn´t get my point right
but , ...
just let´s forget this thread if it bores you
sorry guys for asking you something
andy
