Re: pic

it's got a black cover with the word "bartolini" impressed into the cover...i had talked with greg curbow who i got it from and he said as far as he knew it's the only one of its kind...all the rest of bill's pickups for guitars were active...of course that could've changed in the past few years...d.m.

Very cool!! I've never heard of a passive Bartolini pup.

i wish i knew where to get a few more...this thing sounds great...similar to a duncan custom but with a little more bite in the midrange...a little warmer too...d.m.

oh yeah...it's the sound of the middle part of the solo in prey...right after the harmonies...the other portion of the solo after it was done on a charvel with a duncan custom...you can really hear the difference on the track...d.m.

              Re: pic

The reason I ask is, I've read that Criss Oliva used Bartolini guitar pickups in some of his guitars, but I've never actually seen one myself.

I've seen those pickups before (even with the logo on top), but I think the ones I saw were active. Can't recall where I saw them - GW Buyer's Guide a few years back? Ebay?

I was kind of interested in some Bartolini pups and looking into them awhile ago, then I was also checking out some Alembic pups and their active accessories... they're expensive as hell!!!

hmm... has anyone ever heard of using alembic pickups in a rock/metal context? i bet they'd sound good. the only recordings of alembic guitars and pickups ive heard were the dead.

Didn't Frank Zappa and Steve Vai use some back in the day? There's someone else I'm thinking of too, I just can't remember who it is...
