  • Holy Grail Jackson! For me...

    Hey guys!

I have not been here in ages but I though you guys would like to see and hear about a phone call and a score I made today.

Wow….Long story but bear with me………

Back when Jackson guitars first came out I had heard about the Randy Rhoads model but there was no dealers in my area. I contacted Joanne at Jackson and purchased my first Jackson RR Model. It was a hard tail RR Student in RC-Cola can blue serial number RR-0024.

Shortly after receiving it I took it down to a good friends shop in Minneapolis to show him the craftsmanship. The store he owned was called Knut-Koupee Music. My friend (Jeff Hill) was co-owner of the shop and was very impressed with the guitar. He contacted Jackson and became a fairly large regional dealer shortly after viewing my number 24.

Not long after acquiring the Jackson line a local guitar player (also a friend) name Ross approached Jeff at Knut-Koupee about ordering a one off from Jackson. Ross wanted a guitar that was like the earliest Jackson Randy Rhoads prototype. Jeff bugged and bugged Grover and finally after months Grover agreed to do the one off. Some time in the very early eighties Ross took delivery of this one off and used it for many years with his loca heavy metal group “The Regime.” I always bugged Ross about this guitar and told him he should take care of it. He would always respond, “It is a f***ing tool!”

At any rate, I tracked this guitar for years and eventually fell out of contact with the owner.

Today I get a call from Jeff from the old music store and he tells me he just saw Ross’s Randy Rhoads in a music store. I was off the phone in two minutes and in my car on my way to where it was spotted. I got to the shop and told the salesman the story of the lineage of this piece and how I had been tracking it. He was cool and after some negotiating I was able to purchase it. This is one of those stories that is like a fairy tale!

The guitar is not mint and has some wear and tear but no breaks and it is solid. It is a great piece with some great history and mojo. It's serial number is in the low 200's.

Great story, very unique guitar. Thanks!

I never did make it Knut Koupee, but I heard it was pretty cool. Did you ever make it to James Bern Music, also in the Twin Cities area? I used to see some very cool guitars there, including a BC Rich Mockingbird in "Ultra Violet" that I still daydream about sometimes.
