• Jackson necks and the Wizards....

Hello everyone. I'm very interested in getting a DK2, so I researched a bit about its neck profile. While everyone says that Jackson necks in general are thicker than the Ibanez Wizard of Wizard II, I have found that not to be true, well at least in the case of the DK2's neck, which is all I can choose as I'm left handed.

    According to this page:

    http://www.jemsite.com/axes/htm_features/necks.htm

I think the DK2's neck is thinner than the Wizard II and and maybe even close to the Wizard, when compared to the specs on the Jackson site.

So could anyone please explain to me what the real deal is with this neck issue?

Also, I would love it if you guys can post some pics of your DK2 necks, or maybe similar profiles. I would especially love to see the thickness of these necks, so photos from the sideview, might be great. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply, but how do the Jackson necks compare to these? Thanks again!

Trust me when I say that I used to be exactly like you concerning necks, and I had the mindset that the thinnest necks meant that they were easiest to play. So, my first electric was an Ibanez RG560. It felt alright until I got my Jackson KE3 which has a wicked neck. I did not regret jumping ship.

Thinner still means faster for some people, but for a guy who played acoustic guitar exclusively before getting the Ibanez, having the slightly thicker neck felt the most comfortable for me.

i can't truly compare them...my charvels are old stratheads that are, for the most part, roughly the same thickness as the jems i've owned...but the back shape is much better...the newer jacksons i've owned have all benn very comfy just not as good as the old ones to me...basically it's up to you to try both out and see which you like better...d.m.

Fragger ... I used to play an Ibanez RG560 with a wizard 2 neck ... I then bought a Jackson Dinky RVS and it had an identical neck on it except it was a reverse headstock ..... I recently bought a DK2 crimson swirl and I can tell you from playing on both the 560 and the DK2 .. that you will like the DK2 neck just as well or better than the Wizard 2.

P.S. I just had to get used to it having binding.

Re: Jackson necks and the Wizards....

Thanks for the reply guys. Really helpful. I actually tried the neck of a DKMG flipped over(Hendrix) style, cause I'm a lefty. The neck felt OK, considering that it was really the first electric neck that I was really holding. I haven't held the Ibanez necks other than the Super Wizard, which was definately thinner than the Jackson. However, that is not an option for me as I'm left handed. The only option I do have is actually the Jackson DK2 or the Ibanez RG1570 or the RG570. I understand that the DK2 has the same neck as the DKMG, that is where I fear. Simply because I don't have very long fingers, they are medium sized, on the longer side. Still, LOOKING at that wide Jackson fretboard makes me doubt my playability. Bottom line is, which neck is more playable and compare to each other the Wizard II or the Presitege Wizard, or the Jackson DK2 for MEDIUM sized hands. I can never actually get a chance to feel the real left-handed neck unless, I actually order it. So thanks again for the replies, I will wait for more after my new information post. Thank you so much, you guys are an amazing help!

Re: Jackson necks and the Wizards....

the ibanez wizard neck measures 1.69291" inches at the nut width, the jackson is 1.6875" inches at the nut width...the ibanez is wider... ...d.m.

Re: Jackson necks and the Wizards....

I tend to agree that Ibanez's necks are thinner than Jackson's. However, having played both I prefer Jackson. I don't have long fingers either, but I prefer the solid feel of a Jackson neck. To each his own, so if you decide you like the Ibanez better, go for it. There's only one rule: YOU have to feel good playing it. There's no reason in playing a guitar that's supposed to be easier to play if you have to struggle with it. If a meaty neck makes you play better, do it.

Re: Jackson necks and the Wizards....

Thanks again for your views guys. I would like to remind you guys that I'm a left handed player, meaning I don't really get to try out many guitars, before ordering them. As for playing upside down, one can only get so much "feel" from it is, as it is weird to begin with. So, I came to you guys for advice. You guys are doing a good job too, but I don't understand why Jackson necks feel thicker when they are thinner according to the specs. Thanks again!

You should play as many different type necks and play what feels right.I don't have big hands either and have had many different brands of guitars and I always come back to Charvels and Jacksons. The necks just feel so good in my hands.I like the Ibanez 550s necks too. Thin but not too thin. There is nothing better feeling to me than my 92 jackson fusion, the neck is perfect for me.

Re: Jackson necks and the Wizards....

I prefer Ibanez necks for speed. The necks on my USRG20TP and my 540Pro are killer. I have never played a neck with a thinner profile than a Wizard 2

Thanks for your replies guys. Just wondering how come the Wizard II is thinner to everyone than the Jackson DK2 necks, when that is not the case with the specs. Howcome according to the specs the Jacksons are thinner? Thanks again!
