Re: Why do they do it ?????

JB's sound thin to me. I'd rather have an X2N. I have a DK-1 w/EMG's. Thinking about putting something else in it. I dont think they are all that.

The DK-1 has an 81 in the bridge and I don`t like the 81 in the bridge, too thin sounding, but the 85 is a crushing pickup, 10 times better than the JB to me. The only other p[ickup i like other than the 85 in the Rio BBQ in the bridge. Jack.

Don't forget all those Jackson pickup equipped models from the 80's. I would rather have EMG's over the Jackson brand anyday.

I'll give the stock pickups in any guitar a chance. If I don't care for them, I'll change them. I think the '59 is a fine pickup in the neck of any guitar, but I didn't care for the JB that was in the bridge of my Hamer (mahogany body/neck with a 3/8" maple top). I thought it was a little too thin sounding and lacked bass. I think it sounds great in the treble and high mids, just needed a little bit more balls in the low end to balance the sound better. I imagine it would sound even thinner in an alder or poplar body Jackson. I changed to dual chrome EMG 81 anniversary set for the Hamer and think they're great in there. Though, I usually prefer the 85 in the bridge and the 81 or 60 in the neck on most guitars. For passive pups, I usually have a preference to DiMarzios over Duncans, but I'll give anything a try.

Its all a matter of preference. I happen to only use passive pickups and don't care for any EMG that I tried. Also as stated, changing pickups is one the easiest and cheapest ways to alter the tone of a guitar. I don't think I have any stock pickups in any of my guitars except for the polka dot, I saw no reason to screw with the DiMarzio Super Distortion/PAF combo.
