• Bad G.A.S. attack!!!!!!!....help me!!!!

OMG, I am suffering from a bad G.A.S. attack. I really want to get a new Jackson. I found a few of them in the sea foam green. I like that color alot. I have the $$$ to get one. I really want to move a few of my older cheaper guitars first just to be practical cus I got too many guitars, but I havent had any luck getting rid of them. The bad part is, I have the money to get one now, but I cant bring myself to actually buying. I would like to save some cash for the sake of saving, but this is hard. Maybe I need to goto guitar-a-holics anonymous or something. What should I do?? I need help!!! this will sound stupid, but I dont want to buy one and get buyers remorse and feel guilty about buying it. If I buy one, I want to be all fired up about it, thats part of the fun!!! I wnat it to be fun. THis is kinda a bummer.... any suggestions????

Tonemonster,
the only way to fix the gas is to blow it out and get it
it all depends if you can spend the $$$ and not put yourself in a bind then get it
but if things are tight i would pass and sell other guitars until you had the funds
it never hurts to have a nest egg
look at me i have too many guitars and just bought a 88 limited and a 83 rhoads custom i did not need them oh what the hell i want them all...blew my savings again
so dont listen to me i would buy it and play the hell out of it

Drink a lot of beer to relieve the anxiety; relieve yourself; and go buy it. It's easy to get rid of buyer's remorse, just show the axe to a friend. He will get all excited and tell you what a great deal you got. You will say,"Ya, I knew I got a great guitar." You will then have a valid reason for buying a guitar you don't really need and, poof, the remorse is gone. Works for me. Don't drive with all that beer in you. In fact, have your friend drive. He will give you the moral support to hitch up your balls and BUY, BUY, BUY!!!!!

WEll, I have the cash and can afford it with out it binding me for money. BUT!! Its a practical issue for me. I dont NEED any more guitars, but I WANT one real bad. If I could move a few of my older cheaper guitars, I would have no problem with it. This is a tough one!!!!

At least if you have the cash to buy what you want, you are still lucky.
I wish I had money to buy what I want and worry about selling off some later.
You can sepnd the money now and sell some stuff that you don't need later.

Yeah that's one of the benefits of not needing the money - you don't have to accept lowballs for your other stuff

thats all I got on my stuff too. I realize its not going to bring high dollars in todays market, but damn man, I down want to give it away.... but everytime I want to buy a used guitar, the prices are near new, so thats why I say NO WAY, and buy new. I mean I have seen several nice 2 to 4 year old soloists that are priced $1000 or over. Well I can get a new one for only a few hundred bucks more.... you do the math.....

So you want the ax, and have the cash, and haven't bought it? That's like having gas-x and not using it! Hey, if you think it's impractical, then you gotta go with that. I've never based my gear acquisitions on need, otherwise the already meager collection would be dismal.

throw a couple on ebay and take what you take. If you lose a little so what-its still not cash out of your bank account.

I can tell you are going to buy one regardless-might as well do the right thing

You are not alone. When I feel the same guilt pangs you are describing, I remember some wise advice given to me by my brother (who collects/restores/spends $ on muscle cars). Here it is:

You cannot cost-justify a hobby.

It doesn't matter if it's golf, skiing, or collecting fine Jackson guitars. As you become immersed, you grow to appreciate and want the higher end stuff. It can't be justified on the basis of "need," because you don't need 'em, you want 'em, and that's the natural and logical progression of any hobby.

I say go for it, and if you feel guilty, drive past a golf course/ski hill/casino, etc., and look at all the guys spending money there. Your hobby is no less legitimate.

True words of wisdom my friend! I have buyers remourse after evey single guitar purchase, no matter how expensive it is. It lasts a few days...then it's gone. It's part of the purchase process for me. The important thing is, I don't drink, smoke, or dope my $$ away, so...what the heck. And I pay cash...instead of having a credit card bill give me buyers remourse every month. Jacksons are a great investment compared to wasting $$ cigarettes or beer.. Even if you don't get the full purchase price when you sell, at least you retain most of what you put into it. Like $$ in the bank....but more fun! I say go for it.

Well I have no worthy advice to give you because I bought an overpriced chorus pedal Saturday, just sent someone $$$ via Paypal this evening for a new amp, and got e-mail today with the tracking number for a very sweet Jackson that should be here by Saturday.

To top it all off my wife is interested in a drum set and we've been talking about a piano for a while now.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

you mean you are GASSING for a seafoam green guitar? have you seen it in real life of just on a picture? I have one that needs a refin and actually, the colour looks quite gay to me, so the refin is a ASAP

Huntin Doug, I agree totally on what you said!!! I dont waste my money on things either. I spend it very wisely and dont do it on credit, I pay cash too. SO I dont get buried in debt.

Guitar geek, Yes in fact I am gassing for Sea Foam Green. I think the color is rather cool, but I am an 80's hasbeen. That color has a 80's feel for sure. I havent seen it in real life though. I have only seen pictures. SO you have a SFG jackson??? tell me more about it, I am all ears!!! I would like other colors, but that one just speaks to me for some reason. One is, you sure dont see it too often, especially on Jacksons. Its more of a Fender color. SO lets, see What does everyone else think of the SFG color???
