<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I get the joke, Newc. But - sorry bro - for the newbie's benefit, the info. is inaccurate.
Dinkys were made prior to '86. I believe the first ones appeared around '83 or '84-ish. Mostly Charvels then, but there were probably some Jacksons, too.
'83 or '84 would be a Strat, not a Dinky. The Dinky ("bolt-on Soloist" with 7/8 Strat size body) was not introduced until around '86, IIRC.
I could be mistooken, of course, but I have not seen (or do not recall seeing) a Dinky model dated prior to '86 (Ontario).

I'm pretty sure I know the difference between a Strat body and a Dinky, Newc.
Sorry, bro, but you are quite "mistooken". Take a look through the Charvel Central gallery or Tracy's site www.usacharvels.com. There are pre-'86 Charvel Dinkys in both.
But in any case, regardless of when Dinkys actually surfaced for the first time, you can´t go wrong with an american-made Jackson

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Absolutely. Tracy's web site is so cool, he even has pics of work orders for his axes. Here's one from '83: Dinky work order
I thought the term "dinky strat" refered to the Soloists in early 83... I know that the first run of them were logged in as "dinky strats", and the term Soloist didn't appear somewhere in the higher J02xx range.

I suspect that, early on, the term "Dinky Strat" was used to denote the body style generically. Didn't matter whether the guitar was a neck-through or bolt-on.
Or, to put it another way, it wasn't until later on when a true "model" was denoted that neck-through Dinkys were given the name Soloists.
You keep pointing out Charvel (USA, obviously) Dinky Strats, but given the fact that the guy was asking about "used" Dinkys, I doubt he's going to fork over $5000 for a San Dimas Charvel, so he must be looking for a Jackson (logo) Dinky.
