Re: APC pickups: Do they really exist?

I have a feeling it will take several calls over the next few days to get a little service. But I'm ready to throw down for a Persuader Lead (Custom?).

I called and left a message before I went to work today. When I got back I fully expected to have a message on my machine, he didn't even try calling. Lemme guess this guy doesn't work Mondays either...

Isn't this the same kind of arrogance Ed Roman displays regarding his guitars he sells?

Wow. That was totally not what I expected. I just got off the phone with Mel. He is totally a nice guy, very friendly, very willing to tell me all about their pickups.

I ordered a presuader lead, he said price wise, I'm looking at 97 bucks, shipped. (90 for the pu, 7 shipping)

From what you would read on this forum, Mel seems like a total dick, but he seemed very friendly with me. He was telling me all about his daughter in Southern California, and relating his wife to me via a common swedish heritage.

Yeah so anyways, I'm sending out a money order shortly. hah.

Now if only he didn't have to call at 9 in the morning... back to bed.

Mel is a really nice guy...I spoke with him a year ago and I think the cost was right around that...$80-90. I wonder what he could do on a bigger order...

Re: APC pickups: Do they really exist?

Yep Mel is a nice guy, I got a call from him this morning too. I will be ordering a Persuader Lead come October once his credit card system is up and running. I was curious if he had anything to do with the Fender-Lace stuff, and he told me this long but interesting story about his brother that stole his idea yadda yadda yadda. His brother Don Lace was credited for the Lace Sensor, but Mel says he created that.

I was also quoted $90 + 7 shipping. A bit high, but it sounds like this might be the holy graille after all. High output and crystal clean.

He told me some story about Steve Vai trying oput his pickup at a guitar clinic but due to his Dimarzio endorsement... and that a few pro guitarists that work at Morley use his APC's to test their products with since it is such a clean and high signal to noise ratio. Worth a shot jump on board.

I was just about to post those same things. I'm damn excited for this pickup. I'm sending out my money order in the next few days.

$90 is not a lot of money for a pickup to me. EMGs typically cost that much brand-new in a retail store here, so all the better!

Well congratulations to you both. I hope those are some great pickups & I agree that $97.00 total is not a bad price for a pickup.

I stopped in and talked to Mel before work yesterday. He is a real nice guy. You can tell by his place of business that he isn't really set up for high volume production. Anyhow, on his recommendation I ordered a Persuader and Malice for my SL2H. I asked him about the depth issue that someone else had when installing in the neck position and he said that that was entirely possible but that they make slimline versions of each pickup that sound the same. They are just $5 more. (The pups were $95 each.) Anyhow, he said that they should be ready in about two weeks and that he'll give me a call so I can pick them up before work. I'll let you know how it turns out.
