Re: Kahler or Floyd?

Kahlers. Smooth... smooth... smooth. The only thing they can't do that a Floyd can is gargle. In all the years I've been using Kahlers, I've never had any more tuning problems than I've had with a Floyd - as long as both are set up correctly, both stay in tune very well. Finding parts on the other hand...

I like the feel of the Floyd, but prefer the tone of a Kahler. The Kahler has a more rounded tone. I like the ability to double bend with the Kahler. The clean look on the back of a Kahler guitar is nice too. However at the end of the day if I could only have one guitar, it would be a Floyd.

Floyd all the way for me!!! I have had tuning problems with Kahler trems. I have several guitars with Kahlers and I really dont care for them in several aspects. FLoyds are just better all the way around IMO.

Thats a tossup Floyd is better for serious dive bombs and such. Kahler's have a nice feel and i like the fine tuners better. Both stay in tune pretty well when set up right think Floyd stays in tune a bit better under heavy abuse.

Re: Kahler or Floyd?

I never use trems. I do like how a Kahler feels under my palm more than a Floyd. Many Kahlers are set up incorrectly. The saddles need to be fairly high for the string to get a good angle over the rollers.

I like them both. Right now I have 6 electrics. 3 Kahlers (Fulcrum, Flyer, Spider), 2 Floyds, 1 schaller floyd. As far as different sounding because of the trem I wouldn't know, none of the have the same electronics, or body woods so they all sound different anyway.

Re: Kahler or Floyd?

I HATE Floyds.. Unfortunately in the resale business. 90% of players prefer the FLoyd so I generally seek Floyded guitars out for resale.
I hate setting up Floyds, I hate the way they go out of tune if you rest your palm on it, I hate the way the pivot points wear out so quickly and I think they suck the tone out of a guitar.

My only complaint with Kahlers is that the springs wear in time but the simple fix is to switch to Kahler bass springs.

Maybe I shouldn't say anything cus I haven't even put the bar in a tremolo in the last 3 years as i think trem-tricks are nothin but cheap tricks..

Re: Kahler or Floyd?

The Kahlers I have on the guitars I get are usually beat and finding replacement parts are times can be difficult. For this reason, my vote was for Floyd. I can buy parts for my floyd almost any where. Also, I think that Floyds have less moving parts than the Kahlers. Less things to break!

Cool! I forgot I posted this and come back today to find this thread humming away

Personally, I have only had a couple of guitars with Kahlers and a ton of Floyds. I currently have 2 Model 6's - one with a Floyd and one with a Kahler - and I like them both for different reasons which is why I was curious. Kahler wins in the feel category and I think the tone is slightly better due to less wood removed from the guitar. My feeling boils down to this and I agree with Jim...if I had 2 guitars I would love to have one with a Khler but if I could only have one guitar, it would have a Floyd on it. Better yet..if I could have my choice of trem it would be a V-trem but hey, that's another thread

Floyds for sure, never had any problems with them except for stripping a couple of saddles over the years, most likely from overtightening them.Oh and I think I've broken 3 trem arms over the years as well, maybe I should loosen my grip

I have found that people who like hard tails or old fender bridges can adjust to Kalhers faster. I personally like both (I go back and forth - my Skull, KV and Solist have Floyds while my SD Charvel mutt, Les Paul and SD RR ahve Kalhers) and to all you who say Kalhers suck, I will gladly buy any pre-86 Charvel you have with a Kalher - I would not want you to suffer!
