Re: self tuning guitar

There is one downside I foresee with this setup though. You can only usually drop/raise 1/2 to 1 whole step before the string tension or lack of affects the bow of the neck. What I mean to say is.....increasing the string tension above that may cause excessive gap between the strings and frets and just the opposite for a lower tuning.....the neck may back bow to the point the strings fret out and/or buzz badly.
Maybe if you had an aluminum or graphite neck...something that would not be easily affected by these changes.-Lou

It's a real cool unit.
I think when I get to actually play it, more I will appreciate what it does.
If you write songs in different tunes, this unit will do it wit a push of a button.
Also if you are in live situation where you need different tuning, let' say, normal tuning for the intro, then drop d for some riffs, then whole step below(D) for heavy riffs, then back to normal E for soloing and so on.

It is not about how it effects the tone of the guitar.
I fyou think this unit sucks the tone of the wood, then Floyd Rose the same thing.
How about Steinberger? Wha about Veleno?
If you are talking about how things effect the tone, it goes on and on.
It is about what this unit would be able to do.

For the money, you could get the best amp, mod it and kick the **** out of everyone with the tone. Only those who have the perfect pitch would notice the diffrence. I bet Jimmy Page doesn't))

Re: self tuning guitar

Let's break this down:

a) Whiz-bang self tuning system - $4000
b) 6 High-Quality manual tuners (Sperzel, Schaller, etc) - $40-$75.

Hmmm....I don't get it. Maybe it's the fact that you don;t have to turn those 6 little knobs at the top of the guitar (headstock) that makes it all worth it? Give me a break. If your Page or Perry and you have guitars coming out of your butt and people who want to give you stuff then yeah, it would be cool to try out but for the average Joe, I don't think so. I would not be into giving one of my guitars a hysterectomy to fit that thing.

affects

I like it. I've had a similar idea for years (the unit would be on the headstock). These guys beat me to market!

Re: self tuning guitar

Some folks get it, others don't seem to realize that you can change to open tunings instantly. You can program mega different tunings. It can put you in open G faster than you could do it with a tuner. This doesn't just tune you to pitch. If that's all it did, I have a peterson for that.

A unit on the headstock?? that would make the headstock way heavy ..

I think I like the idea of what it does.
Probably too mcch for me but I am interested of getting one.

I think they should have made a smaller version for the G-string only
