  • Jackson Guitar Palace gone...?

Looks like the palace doors are finally shut, hopefully not for long, but I'm not holding my breath.
Another Jackson/Charvel resource potentially lost to the binary bits. Using the wayback machine kind of works, but not really.
That guitar generator was really helpful in spec-ing out guitars, even helped me envision a project I recently finished.
I was just on there Monday

I think it's safe to say the sites gone now

There was so much information on Dave Mustaine and Chris Holmes' Jackson's....now it's just gone. Pictures, serial numbers, cataloging, just gone. I could cry lol
The forum there was responsive, though not always 100% active.

The site itself was not updated in years so highly unlikely. The forum was the only active part. You can find some of the site on waybackmachine still.

The domain expired last week, owner probably just forgot to manually renew it, assuming he's still alive/active. The owner's email is [email protected] if someone wanna ask him if he intends to renew it

              Hi!
You are receiving this email because you have registered an account at Jackson Guitar Palace.
JGP is closing soon. Please login to the forum and save all data and contacts you need in the future.
JGP used to be a big part of many of our lives. Things have changed in the past years and focus of users has shifted to social media. Old forums are closing down.
There are several reasons for closing JGP:
              - The forum platform is not safe and I have no time to update it to modern standards
              - The hosting costs money (Currently 65 euros per year).
              - The activity level and visibility of the forum is not enough for me to stay motivated maintaining it

If you would like to take over the site please let me know. I have created backup files.
When JGP was started it was amazing what it became in short time. I've never been part of a more friendly and sharing community. It was a great run with many great memories. Most importantly we've formed friendships that will outlive the forum.

Ian has started a Facebook group where members can stay in touch in the future...

Log into Facebook to start sharing and connecting with your friends, family, and people you know.

              Thanks,
              Jani

I fear the same thing will eventually happen to JCF. We have a core group of very active posters (some of us posting daily) with a lot of collective information, but we've also (especially recently) seen the forum neglected and ravaged by whatever forces/gremlins/bugs disable websites. It is not difficult to imagine many of the reasons listed by Jani in toejam's post above also being true for those who helm JCF, although this week has been the best-performing JCF in quite some time (thank you) so I hope the forum can live on as long as possible.

                  Thanks!

Easy to see how that one went under the radar, especially with how crowded email boxes get now.

I fear it too, I try to at least log on when I can and I just went platinum again in hopes that the same doesn't happen. Not difficult at all, I may do some thinking and some talking to see whether or not bringing back JGP as an archive at best while figuring out how to make it a safer experience, at least on the forum side. It was(and still could be) like a porn site for guitars.
As long as JCF still stands at the end of the day, that's fine. Even if some of the only pictures we can get are the blurry photobucket ones from google search

Dang. Sign of the times unfortunately. I prefer forums over social media, but am being forced to go that way. I remember when this sight alone was booming everyday and my favorite on this sight and most sights were the bro deals of guitars and gear.

I'm thinking about it. I'd be re-opening the site, adding new CS Jacksons and Charvels with pictures and stories to the archive, and re-opening the forums to an extent.
I just have to see how much interest there would be in a website for cataloging CS J/C's in this day and age.
I know the last update to the main site was in 2011, there's gotta be some interest in non-manufacturer archiving custom shops, even if they're new.

JGP would require more attention than I would be able to give it.
But if JCF needed to shut down due to hosting costs or just lack of a desire by the current owner to keep it going, I could host it one one of my backup servers pretty easily.
I definitely have the capacity and bandwidth for it.
