  • Serial number info

Greetings. I have a Jackson with a bolt on neck with the following serial J16010177
I searched this site for info and I either missed the info or it's not there. I've had this guitar for years and don't know much about it. Thanks.

is that a sticker, engraved neck plate, stamped into the wood, marking on the wood, stamped into the fretboard, or other?

also, are you in what may be considered its own market? such as Japan, who often have country exclusives.

I'm in the U.S. and the number is printed on the back of the headstock.

Are there not two letters before the J?

Example: MXJ16xxxxx would be 2016 made in Mexico.
You'll need to give a list of specs or a pic since the model can't be ID'd with a serial.
        96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

It appears I made an error and was looking at the wrong guitar. The serial is indeed stamped on the neck plate and is 00120018. Apologies for my error.

That should be an Indian model made in 2000, but a pic or list of specs will still be needed to ID.
You could check out the old catalogues on the Jackson site if you'd like.

Duncan designed humbuckers (neck and bridge), Jackson/Floyd trem (chrome), reverse headstock, sharkfin inlays, dark (almost black) transparent blue.
according to the 2000 catalog it looks like a DR3

Not if it was made in India

In appearance it LOOKS like the DR3 with the exception of the pickup selector, it's slotted. The neck plate is plain chrome with only the serial stamped in it. I can't upload pics for some reason. I don't know what it is, I've had it about 10 years, the guy I got it from has no idea either.

Sounds like an early DX10D Dinky. They moved production to Japan circa '02.

                        Out of Japan in '99?

The X Series started in India during the late '90s before the MIJ X Series started. Then they went back to India until 2012.

DR3's are ash, you'd know it because you can see the wood grain. this is a DR3 with a model 88, the black one is a DR3

I was only curious about the model. I knew it probably wasn't anything high dollar and that didn't matter to me. I've enjoyed playing it. I appreciate the info. So we have decided it's a DX10D?
