• do some jackson pointy headstocks....

it seems to me whenever i look at a pointy jackson headstock, some of them have longer points, while others have shorter ones.

I know that on old ones the headstocks vary quite a bit in length.

The pointy headstocks have varied quite a bit over the years. When you start looking at the imports, the early 90's pointy Charvels had the largest headstocks of all. The recent made in India junk seems to have the smallest headstocks used on a pointy.

Another thing to note particularly about the Mustaine V is the distance from the nut to the first tuner is shorter. I've seen it on a few other models that have popped up now and then, but can't quite figure out the "why" for it.

Easy, no locking nut. They made that area shorter.

In theory, yes (and it would normally explain it). But if you take a good look at the photos above, the RR has a much longer length from the "back-end" of the nut to the tuner, Floyd or not. I think that´s what Newc was talking about

Another really odd thing i noticed lately. I don't have a good picture of it, i'm afraid.

Take a look at the Pro headstock in the picture up there. Notice how much of the tuners are visible, compared to the USA. That is because the japanese guys angled the top surface of the headstock for some reason. I slopes downward toward the logoed surface. Sort of a huge bevel. The smart thing about it is that the binding is more visible viewed from the front.

I have only seen this oddity on this particular Pro above.

Stop me, i'm going into detail mode again...

Man, the nut width looks much wider on the Pro also? jack.
