Interesting..... old style w/ Alder wings, old style w/ 3 piece neck, old style with binding over frets, old style logo, old style neck angle, old style non-recessed Floyd, old style heel joint BUT....... newer style larger control cavity and cover????........ weird.

               I never realized that before.

Well, it IS an Ontario guitar rather than a San Dimas one... And the control layout is more typical of modern Soloists rather than the San Dimas ones (or what I've seen of the San Dimas ones so far).

                  Re: Shannon inventory thread

The Shannon I had was not a three piece neck. It was a one piece with a scarf joint. Perhaps it was a one off?

To me it didn't feel like any of my San Dimas era Soloists, but I don't mean that in a negative way.

Jim, how can you tell yours was a one piece with scarf joint?

                      Re: Shannon inventory thread

By the sinking of the finish into the wood. When I held the neck so light reflected off of it I could see the curved seam behind the 2nd fret and in the cavities there was no signs of any seams.

Hmmm, I shall have to try that to see if I can see three pieces or just one plus scarf joint. Might be tough though... black is as opaque as it gets.

                          Re: Shannon inventory thread

You aren'y looking through the finish, you are looking at the surface. After the guitars are painted the finish continues to cure for a little while after the guitar is painted and completed and in seams the finish tends to sink a little.

So shouldn't you technically be able to feel the seams as small little "grooves" running the length of the neck on 3-piece necks?

Just so I am clear, here is what I mean by 3 piece etc.. I had a guy here tell me once Jackson did 5 piece necks, I thought je was crazy until I figured out he considered the wings wood as plies of the neck.

Not usually though I have had some guitars where I could feel the seam. Usually it is just a small movement in the finish that only shows when you move it around in the light.
