Inlays...
Likes: MOP/abalone ANYTHING inlays except dots! So that includes sharkfins, REVERSE SHARKFINS especially, blocks, trapezoids, multifret-spanning designs, etc.
Dislikes: Dots. I'd rather have a blank board than dots. And I'd rather have pearloid sharkfins before taking MOP/abalone dots.

Fretboards...
Likes: Anything with a beautiful grain and/or slick feel. Deep rich-looking rosewood sounds the best to me, but ebony looks super-smooth and complements ANY guitar.
Dislikes: Dry gunked-up boards... and as RacerX said, light rosewood looks HORRIBLE, but nothing a little lemon oil can't hydrate...

Re: Favorite & Least Favorite Inlays / Fretboards

Best: Blank ebony or dark rosewood OR any nice pearl/abalone design in moderation. My personal choice for custom inlays has been pearl or abalone dots with blocks at the 12th/24th frets.

Worst: White plastic dots, especially on light rosewood. I also dislike the gaudy plastic/pearloid inlays so common lately. I won't buy any guitar with pearloid inlays unless they can easily be replaced with real material.

Inlays:
I like Pyramid inlays (Ibanez Universe) especially the yellow orange and green ones. Anything abolone. Sarks, blocks, dots. I don't care I like'm all. But, I hate anything cheap.

Fretboards:
I love maple. I like well taken care of rosewood (not dry or too light in color) I also like ebony boards. I guess I should've said I like all boards. I don't like cheapies with frets hanging off so you scrape yourself when you play. Kinda like those cruise guitars. Those are mega foul! LOL!

I hate that stupid cheap plastic crap Jackson started using on the imports. MOP Sharks are my all time fav!

Re: Favorite & Least Favorite Inlays / Fretboards

I like no inlays or very small dots. It does depends on the guitar, though. Certain inlays work well with certain guitars. Same thing with fretboards. I can handle rosewood on Les Pauls and similar guitars, but I usually can't stand it on most other styles. I'd rather have maple, ebony, or pao ferro.

Cheap looking Rosewood with light color.

likes: ebony fretboard with binding and NO inlays at all (most favorite), sharkfin inlays (preferably MOP), off-set dots, dark rosewood, maple fretboard on a dark colored metal guitar (funny, because I usually don't like maple fretboards)

dislikes: reversed sharkfins, abalone binding and inlays (abalone dots are ok though), vine inlays, flame inlays, light rosewood
