• King V size change?

Ok, so when did the King V get downsized from "Big Red" to the Mustaine/KV1/KV2/Current size?

I,m not sure, Probably when they became a production guitar. It was probably a money saving corporate thing, to fit a Rhoads, Kelly, Warrior, and Kink V in the same size case. Just my opinion though.

Only the very first guitars were Double Rhoads, maybe only 10-20 guitars. By 95 they were all downsized.

You'd be surprised, actually. Given the popularity of the Soloist, Strat, and Rhoads models (not to mention all the Firebirds, Roundhorn Vs, Explorers, and other such copies), it's entirely feasible that there were only 20 USA King Vs (Double Rhoads, pre-Mustaine KVs).

The King V did not become a USA production model in 1990 with the Warrior and Rhoads - that wasn't until at least a couple of years later (someone with 92-95 catalogs can check, but I believe the 96 catalog shows the KV-2 as a Professional Series dot neck bolt on, and says "NEW" next to it. It also introduces the Mustaine KV-1 IIRC (can't find mine)).

I think he means only 10-20 double Rhoads were made, which is different than a King V. The first downsizing was done in 1985. This is when the guitar officially became the "King V". J0479 is possibly the first down sized version and is the first logged "King V". Rob Witte has that guitar. I have the 4th and 10th "King V" logged guitars, both from 1985 and are low numbers. There are more outside of that, so they made atleast 20 "King V's" in 1985 alone.

I own J1370 that I believe is from 1985 or 86. The tag on it at the music store where I bought it said King V Custom.
