That is a killer guitar you have there. By all meand back that pickup off a bit, especially with the active circuit. A pickup being closer to the string will make it loader but also tends to make them a bit harsh.
Yup. 1994 Japanese-made. The bridge pickup should be a J-50 (covered). Sounds like whoever set it up thought it was an EMG and put it as close to the strings as possible.

Hi, i've brought a Jackson Soloist Pro from around '87 that was found in the store's stock (first owner). The serial is on the last fret, it's a J4XXXXX. Well, i dunno if this is a USA or a Japan made Jackson...
Anyway, it's a great axe. It has active Jackson pickups, licenced Floyd and a very fast fret board.
Other doubt that i have is about the Floyd, since this one is the first guitar i have with one...
The bridge humbucker is a box-like one, like the EMGs, and the strings are very close to it, i tried to palm-mute and the strings were touching the pickup... I had to raise the bridge a little bit, but since i don't know anything about Floyds and considering this is a neck-thru, i'm afraid raising the bridge too much would damage the arm in the long term...
Thanks for the reply.
Btw, what do you think of this guitar? I'd like to post pic, but i'm at work and don't have any...
Yep, they look like EMGs. But i suppose that didn't happened... The pickups have "Jackson" all over them
Well, thanks for all the replies, it's a nice forum with nice ppl!
I just hope that lowering that isn't that much of a trouble... I just play them, i'm a complete zero when it comes to the technical thingies...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You just loosen these two if you want to lower them. For raising them, you tighten both screws.
Thanks, man! I have to get used to doing this sort of stuff. Sooner or later i'm going to replace those pups, as well as doing some custom wiring of my own. And since i want to do it by myself (no middleman )....
Do you know any good site covering this things?
I only know guitarnuts.com, but they only speak of pups and amps... Rarely have i found other stuff there...
You mean sites about circuits? The best way to get accurate circuit schematics is visiting manufacturer's official webpage.
I think they're also open for any further question, if you get stuck.
Check www.seymourduncan.com and www.emginc.com
These are two common sites for me. Once you get the basics and you'll achieve the whole palette of pickups, you'll be able to do some real custom circuits with lots of add-ons and custom stuff like that.
Is the trem floating, or is it set low to the body. If it is floating, make sure it is level with the body, and not leaning up or down. You can achieve this by adjusting the spring tension. Also, lower the pick up a bit.
