Zakk's new LTD Rhoads

We only just got the GW issue with Zakk on the cover here in Oz and I just realised that his LTD actually has a vintage trem on it. Up until now I figured it was a tunomatic string-thru as all the other LTD type guitars of recent times couldn't have the same configuration as Randy's guitar.

I'm basically wondering why he was allowed to get an LTD with a trem when the rest of us have not been allowed to get an LTD anymore. Has something changed?

yeah, for one, the specs of the guitar are different. look at the block inlays; they're bigger. they are the size of the sharkeye inlays, but mike just put larger blocks in there.

I did notice how big the block inlays are, that doesn't faze me, it's not the kind of 'difference' that would have let them make you one after the original LTD run. "Yes, this guitar will be nothing like Randy's, I want the inlays 2mm bigger, yes, that should do it"...lol....

I've seen Black w/gold stripes LTD's (stringthru) and I've seen standard White w/gold stripes LTD's which were also stringthru. Slightly oversized block inlays or not, that's a lot closer to Randy's guitar than normally allowed. The SS saddles do look stupid, but hey, they can be changed....

What is the latest on that? I was able to get one with a tuno-matic White with pins I think I ordered it in 99 or 2000. I don't see why they should stop the body style, just don't duplicate the LTD. By this I mean no Floyds or V-trems. Put a Kahler if you want a trem, or a Tuno-matic or a hardtail like the Jake guitars. If someone wanted a Floyd or V-trem it should be different colors.

Your picture doesn't seem to be working ejpii.

They never stopped the body style, that's why you could order yours with the tuno-matic, but you haven't been able to get one with a Floyd or a V-trem, except now Zakk has, thru his wife. Maybe that's the trick, get your wife to order stuff us guitarists can't normally get for us.

Wife: Hi, I don't play guitar or anything but I'd like to order a nice custom strathead Charvel and an LTD Jackson just like Randy had.

Jackson: Sure thing lady, not a problem.

Zakk's may not be exact, but it's waaaay closer than anybody should have been able to get it before. The neck being chunkier doesn't change much, you can't tell in a picture if it's the same and who knows what happened with the inlays. Maybe they thought they were correct during construction or maybe they were asked to make them a bit bigger.

I sold a few of them last year, when I was the Custom Shop guy. Check with Guitar Asylum and the Music Zoo, they bought a few.

I believe that Mrs. Wylde actually got the guitar for Zakk as a surprise from what I can remember from the accompanying GW article.

The guitar has a few different features then Randy's..
The blocks are the most obvious..
Mike also noted the neck is VERY Les Paulish in profile and contour..
I "think" the logo is slightly different as well..
