Hey, I know that his has been discussed here a million times.. and the field is pretty evenly spread on whether the red, double hum guitar that Vai plays in Crossroads is a Charvel or a Jackson with the logo covered up..
OK, I got the guitar battle clip on my computer.. and being of the die hard "it's a Charvel" camp.. I wanted to see if I could find any proof, either for or against my stance.. I was willing to accept the outcome, whatever it may be... And you know what I found out!
NOBODY is wrong!! I looked through the clip and first thing I saw was what looked like tape covering up what would appear to be a "Jackson" sized logo on the headstock at about 7+ minutes into the clip... the tape even looks like it's cut in the shape of the "J".. So, I was ready to concede defeat at that time.. BUT, I was looking at it again today.. really more just trying to pick out where the luthier joint is on the back of the neck, when what do my eyes happen to spy at exactely 4:30 into the clip.. but an UNMISTAKABLE San Dimas Charvel Serial # plate on the guitar... It's at the part right where he's doing the "train" thing, and he's about to get into our buddy Ralph's face, and he whips the guitar up damn near over his head... I just happened to stop it, as it was showing a decent shot of the back of the neck.. when I spied the plate.
If I knew how to get screen shots of this off of my Windows Media Player, I would post them.. but I've got Windows ME and I have no clue.. if anyone can tell me how, I'll post some screen shots..
But anyway, it does appear to me to be a Charvel with a Jackson neck.. or a Jackson with a Charvel plate.. or any combination there-of..
Please return to your regularly scheduled progamming.. Have a nice day.
And yes, I was bored...
