Nice guitars, how do you like your squier? I have an older one from the early 90's and it is cream with maple fretboard, and let me tell you it is one of my fav guitars to play, that thing just rings out and plays like butter. Of course i had to replace every damn electronic known to man in that thing to make it sound good plugged in. (LOL)

I'm a fellow DXMG'er. I have often thought about the 81 and 85 mods. (except the reverse..neck for bridge unless you specify otherwise) Is it better? The passives are so dry and lifeless. Are the actives more dynamic? Worth the cost and effort? BTW, for a bolt-on I LOVE this guitar. You rock and your camera does too.

This Squier is from '96 and I have to admit that it's amazing. The neck profile is very similar to Made in Mexico Strats. Really, for playing Iron Maiden and other hard rock or rock 'n' roll stuff I like it very much.

Also, I have set the action very high and the strings are still helluva soft, even though I use 10-46 gauges on E tuning.

Yeah, electronics are **** in Squier but you have a good Strat for small amount of money, even if you replaced the electronics.

You have to see it now. I replaced the Duckbuckers with Jeff Beck Jr. and I have crome knobs on it. It looks damn killer to me.

Yeah, I am a shitty photographer, but I can assure you that any Olympus MJU (300 or above) rocks the hell out of it. 3x optical zoom is not that much, but the sharpness is killer in comparison with Canon which has 10x optical zoom but pictures are damn blury.

The thing I don't like it it's the flash light power, because sometimes you have to hope for a good angle so your picture won't get that ultra bright part in the middle.

I've inverted the pickups, so now I have 85 in the bridge and 81 in the neck. 85 rocka in the bridge but I also prefer 85 in neck. But I decided not putting another identical piece in neck, so I'll try to buy an EMG 89, which is splitable.
To be honest, I haven't tried any other humbucking passives than EMG HZ's. I really cannot assure you whether they're more dynamic or not (comparing to other brands, e.g. DiMarzion, SD humbuckers, ...), but they really have plenty of life inside and keep the sound moving.
I really like the punchness (sorry, that's not a word, but I think it suits the description the best [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]) of EMG's.

But I stand behind the philosophy that everybody that has more guitars than just one should install different pickups in them. So I have my Strat equiped with Hot Rails and they rock.

Yeah, it came to my mind when I remembered my times having an Ibanez and I remember that screw holes in the control cavity edges were all worn out after a couple of turns. So I decided not to molest holes in my DXMG anymore and sawed a hole in it and placed the battery box in it.

I measured everything up so it fits the place between the tone pot and the inner edge of the cavity.

Also, I had other reasons: the changing is faster and more handy.

Because I don't have very light touch. They still feel soft, but I don't like floppy strings. Also, it decreases the fret buzzing a lot.

I don't know, that's just my personal preference.

I also put real EMG's (81, 85) in my DXMG. I have an arsenal of 10 Jacksons and Charvels, and the DXMG is one of my favorites. I bought it at Guitar Center for $350, sold the pickups for $71 on ebay, bought a used 81 and 85 on ebay for $138, bringing the total cost of the guitar to [img]/images/graemlins/scratchhead.gif[/img]........ $417, which is $43 less than what they're going for now with stock pickups.-SCOTT
