Getting a guitar for my girl friend

Hey guys,
My girl friend is starting to get into playing guitar after putting up with my playing for a while. So, as a christmas present, I've decided that I'm going to get her a better guitar than the one I started with. So far, the search is slow. I did, however, find two guitars that I think would be excellent. A charvel model 4 and a BC Rich USA ST3, both of which are rather inexpensive. I was just wondering which one you guys would choose in my situation.

I'm partial, but I don't think you can go wrong with the Model 4 if it's in decent shape. My friend has one from '86 and it plays and looks great.

Any of the Model Charvels would be an excellent choice. You can find some really great deals on the bay. I would check out the Model 2, 3, and 3A also.

I've not owned a Model 4 but I've had some other models in the Model series and they've been excellent. On the other hand I did have an ST3 a few years ago and it was a great instrument as well. Personally I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I know for a fact that both guitars kick much ass, but the only thing drawing me away from the ST3 is the fact that the seller isn't selling a case to go with it.

Can't go wrong with a Model Series Charvel!! It's a helluva lot better guitar than most of us started out on!!

get her a nice acoustic with nylons, it is IMO much much better to start learning on an acoustic then go from there to electric.

don;t get her anything with a floyd dude. i started with one on the yamaha, and i Hated that thing for the Longest time. i'm still really impartial to floyds sometimes.

Get her what she wants - if she wants a nylon (which usually has a wide, fat neck), then get her one. If she wants a Strat-style, get her that. Don't surprise her with it, take her out to try some and let her pick one. True she's just starting out and probably doesn't know good action from bad, but it has to be comfortable for her to play, and she has to like the guitar itself (looks, etc).
Of course, make sure she understands that you can find the same thing online that you can in a store, and usually for much less, so if she finds one in a store she really likes, take note of it (model, serial/date range, etc) and look it up on Ebay.
She may like a Mexi Strat more than a Charvel - you never know - so let her decide.

Seventh Avenged is right-I'd avoid getting her something with a Floyd style bridge.
