Re: please dont banish me o jackson/charvel lords.
"I think the Shannons also have a one-piece maple neck rather than a three-piece which I've been told is more typical of current Soloists."
The Shannons have a one piece with a scarf joint as do the other modern Soloists. The old ones varied. Before 1985 the neck was made of three pieces of maple (sometimes an extra ply on the headstock). In 1985 and most of 1986 it was a one piece neck with the headstock being the same wood as the rest of the neck and an extra piece attached to the headstock. After that the one piece with scarf joint method came into use.
Re: please dont banish me o jackson/charvel lords.
Jim, because the new ones have the one piece with scarf joint, is that why you prefer the older ones with three piece neck? I seem to remember you saying something about this before.
Re: please dont banish me o jackson/charvel lords.
There have been at least 3 BGF and more than 3 in black on Ebay in the last year.
800 seems to be the rate on black and 850 is what the last 2 BGF went for IIRC.
Re: please dont banish me o jackson/charvel lords.
They are successfully sold for a little bit more by JCFers but what you get is an absolute promise from a trusted JCFer. I'd buy from a brother (or sister) any day of the week before hitting Ebay. Joel Drabicki and Wulfe13 recently sold their black ones for a price I consider great for both the buyer AND the seller.

I have no problem with scarf joints. I do believe my Coors Light has one. I do tend to prefer the rigid feel of the 3 piece. They glued the laminations so the grain runs in opposite directions to each other which makes the neck less flexible.
Re: please dont banish me o jackson/charvel lords.
I'm getting the 3 piece neck with my Custom XTRR. I guess they felt it was necessary with a mahogany neck, as it wasn't originally my choice, though I'm more than happy with them doing whatever they think is necessary. Oh, and it'll have a super thin neck, which you probably wouldn't like

There was only one orange sherbert... supposedly the prototype. I'd kill to get that one. I don't think anybody knows where it went to, though.

Re: please dont banish me o jackson/charvel lords.
Have we even seen pics of the sherbet one? I've seen 50% of the white ones (1 of 2) and 50% of the slime green ones (3 of 6) but never came across pics of the elusive orange one. Maybe it doesn't even exist.
There's another prototype... or maybe not a prototype. In any case, it was built before the "standard" Shannons and it had just one hum and was blue ghost flames. Formerly Moshwitz's guitar, now owned by Brett and you can see it on Brett's website www.gilaguitars.com.
Re: please dont banish me o jackson/charvel lords.
I don't know. I've never seen the orange one and don't know if anyone here has, but I've read about it, and I swear I read something about it in one of the GW Buyer's Guides from the late '90s. I remember the one-hum BGF that Moshwitz had... that was sweet!
