I have a sick feeling in my gut. I just sold my SLATQH and it may have been the last one made. #JA0414

Jackson DID offer way more finish options than it could ever realistically produce, so I can completely understand why they dropped a lot of colors. What boggles me is that there are a bunch of retro graphics still left on that list. Not that I really care much about the USA Select line, as it hasn't had much to offer me that I'd ever be interested in... mainly one hum variants.

I just wish they'd offer discounts on Custom Shop batch runs...

I think we might have sold 1 or 2 Raspberry bursts in the past year and half. If there's something in the line you want, you've got to get it. That's the nature of the industry - the product lines are always evolving. What you wanted (Raspberry Burst) is one of the least, if not the least popular finishes Jackson offered - that's not to say it isn't cool, it just simply wasn't selling. You can also order the guitar you wanted (KV2 in Raspberry Burst) for the next few weeks, I do believe. The price list isn't usually "effective immediately..."

As far as blaming in on Fender and/or Guitar Center, you're missing the mark.

If you can't order today, you'll have to go Custom if that's the only finish you want. Fortunately, the Jackson Custom Shop prices are still the best dollar for dollar, all things considered.

That's just my 2 cents.

I hear ya on the popular-stuff-sells issue, but I think the Jackson USA select is not selling big numbers by industry standard anyway, and so it takes more than a year to establish something new within the line.
i.e. most people hasn't even seen a raspberry burst guitar in 2004, that's why it probably haven't sold very much YET. Hell I would've gotten my SL2H in trans blue myself, if I hadn't seen pics of shreddermon's catalogue DK-1 in RSPB on the JCF!! If they wanted to discontinue something they should've dropped silly stuff like "shattered glass" (which looks more like "shattered poo" IMO...)

I have the same feeling for not getting it. As soon as I saw it was no longer in the price list I punched myself

On the other hand why discontinue a color? Like was said a few post up, how hard is it to keep the color around? It's not like it takes a bunch of space does it. If you get an order for a Rasberry Burst spit 1 out. Ernie Ball does that as do most other makers. For example if you want a solid black axis which they make very few of maybe a couple a year, they will paint one for you. Another thing of course you don't sell alot of the "different" transparent finishes, you never see them anywhere. Go into any shop and all you see is basic colors, the graphics are easy to photograph so there's no problem there, but like was also mentioned alot of your transparent finishes come off different in pictures than what they really look like. A good example would be the Chlorine finish thread that was going on a while ago, 10 people submitted pics and it looked 10 different ways, all the way from very green aquamarine to dark blue. You Jackson should at least put high quality pictures of the finishes on your site to at least give us a good look at them. In this day and age there is no excuse for a less than quality website with lots of content, especially a brand that is not carried everywhere, but is a well known brand.

I hear ya on the custom shop being better than most in terms of money. But you also have to take into consideration no one has money comin outta their @ss (and if you do gimme a call ). Yah, that was a little gross , sorry. A custom shop costs a cple hundred more than a USA, and if you have a guy who has to spend more and wait longer for a guitar he could have gotten in a month or two before for less, then how can anyone expect to sell more guitars and make a profit? I'm not for companies making millions at the expense of loyal customers, but they've gotta stay in business to make those kickass guitars somehow. Dosen't quite make too much sense to me to drop things such as finishes (it's such a small detail in the long run and can't possibly cost the company a lot of money to keep em round, just make those graphics on a made to order thing). Now if you want something out of the ordinary that's not offered, then upcharge for CS pricing. Also the price increase will hurt guys who don't make as much as others. Most guys can and WILL wait for their USA because the price was great. To pay hundreds more to get the same guitar will not have the same effect on that guy and might not make him want to buy a Jackson. I dunno, there's a cple things I'm not crazy about all of a sudden. Don't get me wrong, I still love Jacksons and think FMIC did more for them than AIMC ever did, but at the same time I am also a consumer and am lookin out for a great deal and a great company.

The bottom line - you don't drop a succesful model or finish, you drop stuff that doesn't sell.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep, it just strikes me as funny that everything I'd actually consider buying new was dropped.

[/ QUOTE ]

Same here. I was planning on getting another SL1 and SL2H. The three colors I was considering were Black Cherry (SL1 to match my SL2H), Black Forest, and Raspberry Burst. Though I'm glad my other favorite finish, Deep Candy Red, wasn't dropped.

It may not seem like much but you guys just lost two confirmed sales unless I find the guitars I want already in circulation. Another question, (I haven't read the whole thread so if it's been asked, sorry) are these limitations on Custom Shop models too? If I can't get Black Cherry on the custom 7 Soloist I'm about to order than that'll be three sales you've lost.

Then again, I'm just one person so I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter too much.

Brian, I believe there was never a Gold Top Axis available.
I knwo Gold color is available on several other models but I think not available as Gold "Top" on Axis.

I saw Jerry Cantrell play one live with AIC back in the 90's and it looked killer. It was probably the EVH, but that's for another thread...

Eddie gave them to these guys when Van Halen was on tour with them.

I know they did like 10 or so EVH Gold Top(the rarest of all EVH's) guitars way back in the 90's. My understanding is that those sell for almost 5 figures. My point was that if you guys offer the color( EB doesn't do a gold top, just like they won't paint EVHs anyother color than the original color it is, that way you don't have people trying to sell mint green EVHs as an example), which I believe you still do for CS, then make it available for a regual USA. Like I said earlier if someone orders 1 you just paint 1, no big deal, of couse there will be a wait, but hell if I go try to get a model a store doesn't have in stock I'll still have a few months wait.

The dropping of some finishes bothers me, but when they raised the prices by 15% that one really bothered me and actually killed my CS order at the time. I will stick to the used Jackson market for now, unless they lower their prices back down. Jack.
