Hey bros,just read thru the article in the new VG mag this morning,lots of misinformation as usual,for example:
The Star body was inspired by the Dean ML??
Name change to Jackson/Charvel in 1980??
Model designations for San Dimas guitars??:
Standard I=1 pickup
Standard II=2 pickups
Standard III=3 pickups
Gotohs are listed as Chrome??
& of course tite is spelled t-i-g-h-t!!LOL!!
Charvel pointy headstocks debuted in 1981??
Nut width/profile designations??:
G1=1 3/4"nut,wide & flat profile
G2=1 5/8"nut,V profile
G3=1 5/8"nut,60's C profile
Jackson pickups debuted in 1983??
Charvel "joined the list of companies offering Super-strats in 1983"??
Early strathead necks are referred to as "boat necks"!!
Tim Wilson is quoted as a "former J/C employee"??
Pre-pros had "Made in U.S.A." stamped on the neckplate??WTF??
In 1985 Charvel offered only "offset double cutaway shapes"??
Etc.!!!!!
The article was written by a Michael Wright,could this be R&D guy Mickey Wright??He ends with saying U.S.A. Charvels were high quality....late 80's XL Series were "spectacular"!!That would be around the time he worked there so....
Also,apparently Grover refused to be interviewed for the story!!
They started out right, asked the right people about a story, then let someone else write it with disinformation.. Wayne would have done a better job
Micheal Wright writes alot of entertaining Guitar books that are based on assumptions and what he guesses more than facts. I have one of his books. Its good to look at the pictures, but thats about it. I've seen another of his books, and it was the same way..........
I did that Chuck. Here was the response:
"Thanks. I'll speak with Michael Wright and Alan G. on how to address
the matter. I appreciate your calling it to our attention."
I left out the nut width thing because that was published in the '83 price list.
