I was thinking the same thing! Of course, what I "know" I learned from you and Brett and others here. I would need one someday when I have more money.
I would go for a BGF!

Here is a question I have: if an SL1 is an SL1, then what is a Shannon? "Just" a Shannon?

Re: Shannon Soloist

I don't mind people asking about them... they're great guitars and are fun to talk about.

What I learned, I learned from Jim Shine, Brett C, and basically those who owned those guitars because I started lusting for one after I saw a BGF Shannon on Ebay... so cheers to them!

I still occasionally catch the high E on the binding when doing wide vibrato, basically fretting the binding. I've learned to control it though, but really, in effect, the actual metal fret IS shorter than when the frets sit on top of the fretboard binding.

The short name for them, I read on that Ebay auction just once, is SHS1 or something like that. The SH must be for Shannon, the S must be for Soloist. I am not sure if that is an official designation or not though.

Toru, SSL are the Duncan singles in the guitar, I guess.

Re: Shannon Soloist

I don't know but I read it somewhere peopel mentioning about Shannon guitars as SSL.
Which means Shannon Soloist.
Now, we need Brett or Jim Shine to educate us now!

The Shannon I have has an assembly tag that calls it a "SHS1" .

Re: Shannon Soloist

Are Shannon soloists identical to the early San Dimas soloists? Is that the attraction? what exactly makesa "Shannon" soloist different from a regular soloist"
Forgive my ignorance I've never seen one in person.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

Re: Shannon Soloist

Nick, you should read NOTP's first post in the thread.

To me, the bidnings over frets and non recessed trem(but set higher so you can do Vai stuff) are the most big differences from regular soloist.
Also the neck heel is VERY different.

Re: Shannon Soloist

Okay, that's probably it then. I didn't have the hangtags or any documentation when I received mine. I am at least the third or fourth owner of mine so the tags probably got lost somewhere. Before me was Jonsgon, then some other JCFer he bought it off, then a pawnshop probably dropped off by the first owner. I don't know what it is about me but only one of my guitars was brand new, and that was my very first acoustic guitar over four years ago. I just love buying used but they HAVE to be in near mint/excellent condition, like a motorcycle that's been broken in past the 1000km mark so you can now REALLY start using/abusing it comfortably! Re: Shannon Soloist

This site, in German, mentions the SHSl at '98 NAMM:

http://www1.gitarrebass.de/magazine/9804/namm.htm

Here is what an online translation did to it:

"In the last year Jackson was transferred by the new Akai owner to China. The first positive impulses are to be determined. The program became clearer tightened and, and at present only Jackson instruments are offered, the name Charvel rest. New models are: RR3, Randy Rhoads with Reversed Headstock, the Roswell Rhoads, which gave it so far only with Metal Body, now also with wood holz-Korpus, the Shannon soloist SHS1 and the SLS, a soloist with doing granny TIC bridge and two Humbuckern."

"and the SLS, a soloist with doing granny TIC bridge" I have GOTS to get me a doing granny bridge.

I didn't know the SLS was introduced way back in 1998... I thought it was a 2002 or 2003 guitar.

Anyone got a picture of the 1998 SLS? I wanna see this doing granny TIC bridge, whatever that is.

I know the Shannons are 1998, but the SLS that is mentioned in that German article regarding NAMM 1998 is new information to me and I didn't know there was an SLS introduced as early as 1998. And it's the SLS that has that granny bridge thing that I badly want to see...
