The neck plate was empty like a USA fender strat. All of his Charvels necks had the wider radius, like Eds necks.
But this was DEFANATELY the guitar he used in the Lay It Down video and the cover shoot for GFTPM in Jan of 1985. He told me that the neck on that Charvel was only re-fretted 3 times. It was the GREATEST neck Ive ever played.

Unless that guitar has been recovered with a new snakeskin, it's not the same guitar that was in the Lay It Down video or on the cover of the GFTPM Jan 85'. The guitar that was in that video and magazine cover is Warrens Grey and Black anaconda snakeskin Charvel.

Also, It doesn't seem to be the brown python snakeskin Charvel either. The color and the snakeskin pattern doesn't match up at all.

Great story btw! It sounds like Warren is a cool guy, unlike some other famous guitarists.

You're a lucky man. Warren is definitely one of my 80's heroes. I saw him this summer playing at an outdoor festival and the dude still looks and sounds awesome. I'd like to meet him sometime...and yes his Charvels were KILLER back in the day.

That's an AWESOME story!! I used to be a gigantic Warren fan (and still am I suppose), he was without doubt one of the best players from the 80's. I think I read that he had only been playing for 4 years when he first auditioned for Ratt, anyone know about this?

Thanks for sharing!

Hey Matt,
I have heard the same thing about Warren. That he basically locked himself in his room for 4 years and I believe that I heard that he roomed with Jake E. Lee for alot of that time.

He donated it too the HRC in Hawaii, California.

You named 2 states. There are 7 HRCs in the state of California, 3 in the state of Hawaii. Definitely.

Hey Tekky, I'm pretty sure it was not a replica of Warren's black and gray anaconda snakeskin at the Chicago HRC. If it was, someone was able to match up the snakeskin pattern pretty darn good. I've got a pic at home of it hanging on the wall. I'll get it tonight and scan it in to show everyone.

Re: My Warren Demartini Story& The James Dean Char

I'll second Tune Up's comments. This is not the anaconda snakeskin used in the Lay It Down video. Here's the cover of GFTPM from 12/85 along with Robbin and Big Red.

This is the one that is/was hanging at the Chicago HRC.

And I'm also thinking that this is not the brown python Charvel. The snakeskin pattern doesn't see right. Could this be one of his Performance guitars?

Now that you mention it, I look back at the pic to the 12th fret dots.

[/ QUOTE ]Tune-Up...Thanks for pointing this out. I never looked at the GFTPM cover close enough to actually see the discrepancies. He must of had the Charvel recovered w/ snakeskin. If ya notice my pic, Down at the heel of the guitar, all the snakeskin has come off, due to the fact that he sweats on it every night, but Warren really did tell me that it was the same Charvel. Just dont wanna cause a controversy, thats all. Thanx everyone for the cool responses. This a way-cool(no pun intended) message board. love it here.

That's what I meant earlier. The neck does not look to be Charvel. More likely Performance.

Actually now looking at the body........look at the top horn. Doesn't look Charvel to me.
