  • Jackson, GMW, Ibanez, PRS, Ernie Ball ??????

If you could only have one guitar, and you had up to $1500, which of these guitars would you get and why?

    Jackson PC1
    PRS Custom 24 (used)
    Ernie Ball Axis
    GMW Strathead replica
    Ibanez JEM or JPM

Jackson PC1, Hands down. Possibly the Axis. The PC1 does everything well, IMHO, and the sustainer is a blast.

A well thought out and comfortable guitar.

      Ibanez JEM.
I prefer floyded and 24 frets guitar and H-S-H config. (I'd have taken the PC1 if the headstock wasn't so fugly.)

      My two cents

GMW, though for $1500 I would pick another USA Jackson, a SL2H or something. None of the models you listed is anything I'd really be interested in though.

Jackson PC1. If only it had a Pointed headstock

Econ, you already had/have PC1 and GMW Strathead Strat,
I don't know what exactly you want from these guitars but I'd say PRS?
I would love to go for a White Jem or maybe a Paul Gilbert Model if I were looking for a Bolt On neck with 24frets.

I've only played the CU24 out of the bunch and I love it. I ended up buying it.

JEM. Playable, expressive & inspiring, each to the extreme.

Re: Jackson, GMW, Ibanez, PRS, Ernie Ball ??????

So far the opinions vary, but I've tried all of the guitars mentioned in the original post, except the Ibanez JEM. I liked the PC1 and actually was on the lookout for one, but they are too expensive new and also found the neck a little bit too thick for my taste. It is playable by my standards, but just a little too thick. The PRS CU 24 is a hell of a guitar, but that rotary switch thing is a pain in the neck. I didn't like too much the tremolo on the PRS. The Axis felt good, but the sounds were a little uninspiring. GMW's are great, but the one I currently have is only 22 frets and I keep finding myself missing the extra 2 frets. The JPM has and incredible neck and the Dimarzio Air Norton/Steve's Special is killer.

I'll probably continue to listen to other suggestions.

I would say the PC1 but if you like the PRS 24 Custom you can always replace the rotary switch with a toggle and then use Push/Pull pots to slipt coils etc...

I would buy two used Soloists. One Custom with Floyd and one Student with Kahler.

From your list: JEM (of the 7V variety)

Alternate Vote: Used Soloist (You could get two like Jim said)

Though, if you took your $1500 and went to a couple of the better known JCF dealers, you might be surprised at what it can get you new. You might even be able to find a used Anderson in your price range.

PC1. It's got every thing i'd want in a guitar. Versatile, good looking and practicle.
