I also use Heat (heatware.com), but thats usually for other forums. Generally, by posting here a LOT, people can guess at your character, and decide from that. My personal experiences with Matt (Newc), Sully, and Ron (RacerX) have been perfect.

The most important rule, in ANY Online deal: DO NOT commit (on eBay: Bid) if you are not 100% convinced that it will run smoothly and or do not accept all terms

I've never been burned on eBay or off personal deals.I even sent cash to someone from a forum who I've never met.But I've only made a few.
I think there is lots of trust involved. It's hard to deal with people you don't know but by doing the things some off the guys above said you should feel safe enough.
If at any time you start to feel uncomfortable about the deal or if you suspect something dodgy is going on pull away.If they request anything out of the ordinary I'd start to ask some Q's.
I also am trying to get enough to get into the classifieds. It should be interesting

Pack items you sell really well and insure it. Get refs from others they have dealt with in the past. Read the feedback section to see if they have positive or negative reviews...

The biggest thing on ebay is use the feedback to your advantage, find out what they have sold, and if the buyers were happy. Really research the item, get pics, get information, etc. Ask for pics of the problem areas, neck joint, tip of headstock, serial #'s, etc. I have had a lot of good experiances on ebay, some bad, but 95% good. And most importantly, hope for the best. Just remember, you are not the only one that has seen the guitar, so sale price usually dictates the value. If it's to good to be true... Good luck!
