• Tell me all you know about J/C FUSIONS.

I know the idea behind the Fusion, bolt-on Strat-style with Gibson 24.75" scale length.

Tell me the various models that Jackson and Charvel offered, general price ranges (I believe a USA Fusion is quite a bit cheaper than a USA Soloist for some odd reason), neck backshape, fretboard radius, pickups (pickup models and layouts), and all that good stuff. Did any of them come with non-recessed Original Floyd Rose trems?

Basically, is there a USA Fusion that matches these following ideal dream specs listed below?

-USA Fusion, excellent to mint condition
-24.75" scale
-Black hardware and paint
-Non-recessed Original Floyd Rose, although recessed isn't too bad... or even a string-thru/tunomatic is fine
-Dual humbuckers, or H/S/H pickup configuration
-At least one volume and one tone control, none of which should block the pickup switch like they do on the DKMG, I hate that!
-Blade pickup switch, so I can put a 5-way in there to split the dual humbuckers, must not have access blocked by control knobs
-Neck/headstock binding
-MOP sharkfins, MOP headstock logo inlay
-10"-16" compound fretboard radius
-Ebony board, maple neck, alder or maple body
-1 5/8" or 1 11/16" nut width, locking nut

That's all I can think of for now.

That sounds like a USA or Import (same specs AFAIK) Jackson fusion from the early 90's sans the HSH pickup config. Why not get one and route out the neck pickup and your all set! (they are HSS) There's a few black ones on eBay right now. Great guitars

Re: Tell me all you know about J/C FUSIONS.

As far as I know, all production Fusions were recessed Floyd, basswood, HSS, vol, tone, blade and mini switch. They all had Schaller licensed, Jackson badged Floyds and the 1500 boost circuit, J-50B, J-200 singles.

Personally, I can't tell if the fretboard is a compound radius. It feels the same all over, but I never measured. Never measured the nut, either, but feels the same as my SG and model series - so the middle width, 1 11/16 is probably right.

I find the trem bar gets in the way of the tone control (I've removed the circuit and original pickups, and now the tone is disconnected) and that I bottom out the trem bar on the volume knob when diving.

Other than that, black was available though there were a lot of tasteless bikini beaches (yum), MOP sharkies and logo, maple neck, ebony fingerboard, neck and head binding.

That's all I know. Mine plays phenominally well. It was a deep acoustic tone, and this comes through amplified. It kind of has a mahagony guitar kind of sound. If anything, I might like a bit more spank, but I just turn up the presence on my Marshall.

These are the specs for the USA Fusion and the Fusion Pro, but all of the other various import Fusion models, under both Jackson and Charvel logos, varied quite a bit. The only things all Fusion models had in common were Dinky body with scooped lower horn, and a 24.75"-scale maple bolt-on neck.

A couple of variations included: the Charvel Fusion Deluxe, which had a H/S pickup combination, poplar body, and a Charvel-logoed JT-590 trem; the Jackson Fusion HH, which had H/H pickups, mahogany body, neck binding, and a JT-580 trem. There were at least four or five other variants, as well., mostly differing in pickup configuration and small cosmetic details.

i had a USA fusion bolt-on dinky that was holoflake sparkle, great finish, and a great bolt on jackson. i liked the mid boost circuit, and used it from time to time to get that "schenker" tone...the neck was really quite slim on these guitars, felt great, good binding and huge frets...if you want to hear one, go to www.bobbydevito.com, and listen to the song "in green" -- that was cut entirely with that fusion, with the exception of some strat overdubs here and there......

I love everything about the USA Fusions except the necks are very thin. If they made them again with a thicker neck profile, I would order one pronto!! Jack.

Jack, how thin, Ibanez Wizard thin? I myself do also prefer medium-thickness necks, so if it's as thin as an Ibanez Wizard profile, I may have to pass.

Hugely thin NOTP, thinnest Jackson necks I've run across.

I've not played the Jackson JTX (Telecaster-style) but supposedly those are the thinnest Jackson necks. Perhaps the Fusion is close to that...

Yeah, I was talking about the USA Fusion - I should have made that clear.

I´ve seen a few with Standard strat sized bodies as well, I think Remcarr has one of them

Do the Fusion's have 24 frets? How do they compare to, say, the import Soloist Pros (90-92, from what I was told in my welcome to jackson thread)?

They're really different animals--hard to compare. All Fusions that I know of have 24 frets.

Soloist: neckthru, 25.5" scale
Fusion: bolt-on, 24.75" scale.

A USA Fusion or Fusion Pro (Japanese, but w/ebony fretboard and same electronics as USA Fusion) will compare very well in terms of quality and features with the Soloist Pro, but you really have to play them to understand how different they are. Personally, I would favor the Soloist Pro now, even though I used to be a Fusion player, but that's because I prefer neckthrus and have come to like the 25.5" scale better.
