• I am a true Jackson player again!

After having relieved myself of all things Jackson several years ago, I haven't played a Jackson seriously for a long time, and to be honest, nothing really appealed to me anyway. Warriors and RRs are too small, and nothing else is really pointy enough. I toyed with the idea of a custom shop akin to Dan Fastucas Fastar (but neck-thru of course), but alas, I am married with children, so it's difficult for me to blow 3 grand on a guitar. However, on a whim, I purchased a Japanese made KV4 on Ebay a while back, that was brand new, but had a repaired headstock, and no hardware. (very cheap I might add)Well, after taking it to my local guitar repair guru (Freddy Gabrsek) and having him touch up the neck, I put on all new black hardware, and I have to say emphatically, that this guitar is a work of art. I would say that I have roughly $420 invested in this thing, and it is one of the best guitars I have ever played. I have a Duncan Custom in the bridge position, and it sounds like GOD.

Notice the awesome truss rod cover from Huntin Doug!

By the way, I got that Schaller Floyd for $12.50 off Ebay.

Congrats on how good the guitar turned out to be. And the deal you got on the Schaller is unbelievable

          Congrats!
Me too, I am getting rid of other brand guitars and most of my guitars are Jackson now.

Pretty sweet for a low-dollar import. What kind of headstock damage did it have? Busted off completely, or chips and such?

very nice, Zeegs. I came across a KV4 locally a while back. They were asking US prices for it! It's on consignment, and the guy at the store was unaware that the guitar was Japanese (the store doesn't normally stock Jacksons, they're a Gibson specialist). Nice guitar though. It would be an excellent guitar at the right price.

Re: I am a true Jackson player again!

                Thanks guys!

Grandturk, it was pretty badly cracked and split down the back of the neck behind the nut, and the fretboard was lifted right down to the 5th fret. I have pics somewhere of the carnage. I'll post them if I find them. The seller had 3 identical KV4s all with severe headstock damage. Mine was the best of the bunch because the damage was not visible from the front. The other 2 had cracks through the face of the headstock.

Freddy did an awesome job. He checked out the glue job, and found out that it wasn't very stable, so he injected more glue where it was needed, and then touched up the back of the neck. I'll take a pic of the repair when I get a chance.

I'll bet you were sitting in front of your computer. Am I right?

It turned out much better than I expected. I honestly thought that I wouldn't like the guitar, and would end up selling it because it was uncomfortable to play. I was using a leather strap, that was too short. I switched it with a nylon strap that is about 6" longer, and it made all the difference in the world.
