What it should have looked like. Just picture the top rear tip busted off.

I need to know how much it would cost to get the body repaired. We all know it would be cheaper getting a replacement body, but I think poor packing is unexcusable. See the thread "My Second Jackson" for more info.

    Thanks,

    Don

Do you have the piece? Is it a clean break? I don't think it would be that big a deal to have the piece glued back on if it was clean...it's not structural or under any loads or forces like a headstock so that's good. It would just be cosmetic then...

      The tip is long gone.

They wrapped the guitar with cardboard, no padding except for some wraps of small bubble wrap and some scraps of cardboard thrown in. Where the tip was, the single ply tape was split open (first picture is how it arrived). The tip just fell out.

Best thing you can do is have the seller file a insurance claim and get your money back and move on. Generally the shipping company will pick it up from you for review. I'd let the seller deal with it on his end since it was obviously packed like crap.

If that came UPS they will deny the claim for the shitty packing job. They try to deny claims on good pack jobs.

The auction says that insurance is included in the shipping costs. Tell the shipper/seller to start the claim process (you can actually start this as well), refund your money and you will leave a positive feedback. If the insurer denies his claim that's his tough luck. *YOU* paid for the insurance. It's *HIS* responsibility to recover the claim when damage occurs during shipping.

Also there is a return policy as well on the auction as well. Don't worry about the shipping as UPS will return it to him for free if one of you files a claim.

If he balks, do a chargeback or do a file a fraud report with eBay. The guitar you received is not the guitar you purchased. Plus he's not honoring the insurance process or his return policy. You have ample ammunition to come out whole here.

Re: Damage in shipping - how much to repair?

I have this big issue. Looking at the auction:

                http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Does a repaired headstock fall under the category "good pre-owned condition"?

"There are some scratches and dings from normal play use and handling."

Unfortunately for responsibility of filing a shipping claim, it states "Seller not responsible for items lost or damaged during shipping, but will help in filing a claim."

But they should be responsible for bad packaging!

Re: Damage in shipping - how much to repair?

To repair you'd have to cut the damaged end clean & straight, then glue on a block of wood, then shape that wood to match the original tip then paint...probably cost more than you paid for the whole guitar.

I agree with Souldigger, let the seller worry about the claim, try to have him give your money back right away and move on. (of course he'll be a dick and won't refund your money until he gets a claim refund).

Or you could make an agreement with the seller...keep the guitar but find another body on ebay and have the seller send you a refund in the amount of the body's cost. I bought a $400 Kramer that had the headstock snapped in half during shipment. I was lucky to find a replacement neck on ebay for $91 and the seller refunded me the $91 and we called it even.

Here's yet another example were I really try only to bid on items with cases!

Re: Damage in shipping - how much to repair?

Sorry Don, that sucks big time. This bit here "Insurance coverage is included in the fixed amount. Seller not responsible for items lost or damaged during shipping, but will help in filing a claim" is kind of specious; they're the ones that insured it, they're the ones that need to file the claim. Liek others have said I'd get right on it.

I've sent a pair of emails - one at 5pm EST. No response. What time is Texas if it's 5PM EST?

if you payed with a credit card, send the item back, give him a tracking number, and ask for a refund. If he doesn't give it to you, give him a neg and reverse the charges....

It was mostly credit card. Maybe $30 was in my paypal.

I don't think I deserve to eat the shipping charges when they didn't disclose the broken headstock. And I don't think I need to fight with UPS because they packed it badly. Personally, I wouldn't blame UPS for refusing to pay. It was packed REALLY badly.

Don, I recommend that review the UPS claim process. If the shipment was insured (I really hope so), then YOU can start the claim process, they will then arrange pick up of the guitar/packaging and send it back to the shipper with no out of pocket costs to you.

At that point, you have documentation that the guitar got back to the seller. Then use the chargeback if you have to.
