Re: Kahler USA is open for business!

Everybody knows how I feel about Kahlers, so I won't belabor that point. But, why in the heck would you bring back the Flyer and that fulcrum trem? Those things were, are and always will be substandard junk. What's next, the Rockinger?! Maybe Jackson will bring back the JT6 as well. The prices for the more standard Kahlers are pretty high as well. Good news for you guys that are Kahler fans, to be able to get parts and complete assemblies must be a godsend. I couldn't even imagine if my preferred trem and its parts were out of production and impossible to get. Congrats.

Re: Kahler USA is open for business!

I had a Wonderbar on my first guitar, a Washburn Force 2. I actually liked it better than a Kahler, because it had a second set of rollers behind the saddle rollers that held the strings down and kept them from jumping track (like happens so often on Kahlers).

Depends on what you're looking for. The cam-style Kahlers are easily the smoothest trems out there if you care about that at all. The original 2700 is probably the most adjustable with the capability to adjust individual string height (w/o shims) and individual string spacing horizontally (try that on a Floyd). There's a reason that Kahler sold a lot of trems back in the late 80s and it isn't because no one knew what a Floyd was.

..knocking out the spacing and making it inconsistent (can't do that with a Floyd).

One of the first guitars I ever played, a Washburn Tele, also had a Wonderbar. I kinda liked it. Never cared for Kahlers, though.

I've got a Carving catalog from '92. For the DC 127, it was a $100 upgrade for the Carvin/Floyd (looks like a Kahler Steeler, but can't be sure)

I believe it was. They also offered the Auto-Latch for it (which was made by Kahler, and I believe only fit that kind of trem system) so that you could lock the bridge down like it was fixed.

I suppose that could happen but I never had problems with it on any of my 2700-equipped guitars.

Re: Kahler USA is open for business!

Why didn't Kahler ever design their bridge so that the string was clamped down at the bridge? That would have ensured that they stayed in tune. I had two guitars back in the 80's with the Kahler Pro (2700?)and they always went out of tune because the ball end of the string moved around in the compartment area.
Did anyone here ever have luck keeping a Kahler in tune when diving?

Good to see Gary Kahler back in business. I know he had a rough time back in the day with bogus Kahler knock offs from the far east.

I always liked the flat mounts, I liked the way they worked and sounded. I never really did much dive bombing, just subtle vibratos and such, and the Kahlers worked well for that. Kind of like a modern day Mosrite Vibramute trem, but worked a lot better.

The never ending Kahler vs. Floyd debate!

I have owned 3 guitars with Kahlers, and 3 with floyds. I still have the 3 kahler equipped guitars, and am down to only one floyd. Floyds do stay in tune a slight bit better if you are a heavy divebomber, but since I'm not, the Kahlers are fine, and given their superior tone and feel, it's an easy choice...

Of course it's all a matter of opinion!

My main complaint on the Kahler designs is all the string breakage problems I had due to burrs in the rollers. I was breaking Low-E strings left and right on my Kahler equipped guitars, even the fine-tuning non-trems.
