Re: Selling someone else\'s gear.

Yeah, I kinda have the same thing going on here.
I guess 1.5 years ago a guitar repair came in and the guy had his band mates guitars too.
1981 Dean Z original, half the headstock broken off.
We originally worked out a trade where I would keep the Dean in trade of me putting together a LP he smashed on stage.
Never heard a thing from them again...
I have thought about getting rid of the guitars because they are in my way... but I decided long ago not to.
The misses thinks the Z will look killer on the wall.
And since I repaired the headstock and lots of other stuff to it, she's right.
So It will be a killer wall hangar in my office.
Then if the guy comes back in a year or seven ;-)
He can have it back for the work I put into it and of course pay for the LP repairs I did....

Anyways, that's just my blog of a similar situation....

This is funny. I guy that I used to jam with who is a little flighty left a vintage 1960s Peavey tube 2x10 combo amp (very fender copy) that was his Dads wih me over a year ago and i have not heard from him in like 6 mos. I hear he was moving to montana (you cant make ths shit up). I kinda want to liquidate it.

What do you all say? Is it worth anything (evil - he is a good guy, but its not like I grew up with him)?

Re: Selling someone else\'s gear.

I was the guy that never picked up a piece of gear at a buddies house.

I was in a band in the early 90's and we practiced at the drummers house. He lived with his parents at the time. The band broke up and I had left a 4x12 that I intended to pick up later. I never did. He ended up moving twice and he brought the cab with him every move.I didn't really stay in touch with him. I ran into him a few months ago and just out of curiosity asked about the cab. He told me he sold it for $50 bucks. Now, I can't really blame him as he did move the thing from place to place, but he could have called me and I would have been there on the spot to pick it up. I was a little put off by the fact that he sold it for $50 bucks, but what the hell. He had it for like 10 years.

Re: Selling someone else\'s gear.

I had a situation somewhat like this several years back. A bassplayer quit our band, but left his amp in our rented practise space. Then someone moved into a house, so to save $ we moved our stuff over there to practise. Since no one in the band used the bass amp, I brought it home with me. I kept it for four years and through one move. I never heard from the guy again during that entire time period, and didn't have any way of reaching him. Finally, a year ago, I took pictures of it and listed it on ebay. I kept the receipt for it and if I ever run into him again I'll just write him a check for what I sold it for. I just couldn't keep storying a 1x15 combo amp in my house with a growing family, growing gear collection, etc.

Re: Selling someone else\'s gear.

I picked up a guitar last month that I left at a old friends house 10 years ago. The Nut was broken, but it still had 6 strings. Thats a Bro. I have lent Basses to guys that didn't call me in a year then I got the "oops".

I'd call those guys " Dirtbags" But I don't ever want to talk to them again.

I'm the guy that lets people "borrow" stuff and then forgets about it. Years later I will be looking around the garage going, I know I gave it to someone to use, but who was it again? I lost a 4x12, 2 pair of bass bins, 2 power amps, and about a garage full of tools! They were dusty anyways!
