Re: HELP ASAP!!! Please

Joel - Never heard this one before. I must admit that this chick's story sounds like a load of . I mean, the fuggin' guitar says "made in USA" right on the headstock. ...And the "fish and wildlife" guys chose it because it's a guitar and has inlays!? WTF? This situation smells fishy.

I'm thinking someone at UPS has possibly f**ked up the package already, or is looking for a nice free guitar. I suppose it could all be legit, but I'm thinking not.

I would be clear to her on the phone and state that if that guitar does not get delivered to you in one piece - and soon - that you will be sure to get your lawyer and law enforcement officials involved quickly. Don't threaten it or be nasty, mind you. Just be upfront her story sounds farfetched and, if this isn't on the "up and up", you'll call their bluff and follow through. Make sure you get her name. And try to talk to a supervisor again.

That sucks big time. It was made in CA correct?
So if it can be shipped OUT of the country without problems, why can't it be shipped back in?

They do have MOP in Cali, or anywhere else that does fishing. You might be able to BS the crazy bitch and tell her that the guitar is 100% made from US materials. Also, get a lawyer on this.

Joel, I replied to your PM and I am also going to contact UPS on my end.
It is ridiculous as I have shipped so many Jackson Guitars with the same MOP Inlays beofre.
People who bought from me here can tell you they all got the guitars safe and fast.
Plus I have never had a guitar shipped back to me.
So my guess is if I contact them and speak with them will fix the problem.

I will get back with you on this ASAP.

[/ QUOTE ]

I got a guitar from Toru with MOP dots and had no problem at all. I think that may have been DHL? I can;t remember.

THe more I think about it, the more it sounds fishy to me. Maybe you can call an 800 number and aproach this situation from the top down.

Man I hope you guys can get to the bottom of this.

Bizarre... I've never heard of anything like this before. They probably do this randomly and you're guitar just happens to be the lucky winner of their investigation. Let me know if you need any help on this, I'd be happy to contact Jackson and find out where they get their mother of pearl from.

Re: HELP ASAP!!! Please

I also shipped a GMW guitar which didn't even have MOP inlays(it has Black Dots) to Wayne and somehow UPS held the guitar with the same reason.
It seems that the guitar was released and now in transit.

I also shipped a very similar guitar(KV) 1 week before this and it went without a problem.
As you know I have shipped many guitars before and none had problem.

I contacted the UPS and waiting for a reply.
Since it is Saturday, probably I will have to wait until Monday to see.

Damn Joel, I hope all of this works out. Sounds like BS..but they have the guitar. Keep trying to get the supervisor, and it's good that Toru is helping on his end too..stupid shit.

I've been doing searches and I think I've found the genus and species names: Pinctada and Nacre...I just need the coutry of origin now.

[/ QUOTE ]

Most likely in the Pacific Basin, so country is very hard to determine.

The three main oysters used in pearl production are:

-Akoyo Oyster (Latin name Pinctada martensii) - This is the most commonly used oyster, producing more export-quality pearls than any other species.
-Black-Lipped Oyster (Latin name Pinctada margaritifera) - This is the source of exquisite South Seas pearls in such beautiful colors as grey, black, blue and green.
-Silver-Winged Oyster (Latin name Pinctada maxima) - Predominantly found in Australia, this specimen produces brilliant white pearls that require little or no bleaching.

Why the hell am I talking about pearls when I should be talking about mother of pearl? Pearls themselves are an irritation to the nacreous layer in the shells of certain bivalve molluscs, usually a very small round stone or tiny ball of nacre. The nacre builds up around the "seed" as new nacre is secreted from the mother of pearl nacreous layer. High quality pearls are as close to being pure nacre as possible.

I don't know how difficult it will be to give the species epithet to the UPS people since I think a few different types of oysters can be harvested for their shiny MOP layers. The genus Pinctada is most likely correct, but it could be any one of the three species that I listed above. They're too damn related for UPS people of all people to give a damn. And don't even get me started on abalone... they don't even belong to the same genus as these oysters!!!

There's your zoology and taxonomy lesson for today folks.

FINALLY, the stuff they're teaching me in my major can be applied!

Joel, good luck bro! I'd give them all three species if I were you.

Re: HELP ASAP!!! Please

Here's my big question. Is the reason this guitar case was opened up because of some type of customs laws and it's being shipped into the United States from another country? If so, I am completely blown away. Second of all, what does it really matter which genus and species it came from? Is there some type of embargo on MOP from Fiji I haven't heard about?

Good luck with this man, I hope it all works out for you.

There's some literature about endandered/protected species being illegal, or at least STRICTLY RESTRICTED, to export, in live or carcass/dead form. For example, I THINK elephant ivory, Brazilian rosewood, and Hawaiian koa are strictly regulated as their supply is somewhat-to-very limited.

Taking another example, one that actually applies to genus and species, there's Brazilian rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) versus Palisander rosewood (Dalbergia baroni). Obviously the Brazilian is in super-short supply whereas other rosewood types are more commonly used now for guitar fretboards.

Smells like bullshit. I just shipped out 3 guitars and not once was I asked about the construction materials. And the story about the supervisor not being there is bullshit as well. Part of every Union contract is that a knowledgable supervisor is on duty or on call when the facility is open.
I'd file charges ASAP and contact the local cops and file a conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to commit theft over $1000 claim.

Where in KY is this UPS facility? I'm in West TN and can probably drive there and confiscate it for you today and ship it from my local outlet Monday if it's close enough. I might even be able to get some sort of info from my local UPS folks - they know me there (somehow )
I can definitely ask them for a printed version of this policy.
Fish and Game should only be concerned with LIVING organisms that may be introduced to the local waters regarding disease and other effects on the local population - certainly not something that will not enter the local waters like a guitar!

Re: HELP ASAP!!! Please

It almost has to be bullshit.
It was made is USA...bottom line.

Your package should not have been opened by UPS PERIOD.
The only people who have the authority to inspect parcels are the import people, at the warehouse upon receipt in the USA. One passed thru, only probable cause is permitting for a law enforcement agencey to open any parcel or mail.

What they are doing is...
A. Illegal search and seizure
B. Probably an attempt at fraud or conspiracy (e.g., to take the guitar, or cover up the fact that it was damamged).

There are quite a few things going for you.
Get on the phone with the police in that area. First step.
Call that bitch, and get down with your social engineering skills. Ask her a million questions and inform her of search and seizure regulations. Lie. This is part of social engineering. You are a cop, and got ahold of one of your buddies in that area (at which time give them the police report #), and tell them that this situation needs remedied with and extreme sense of urgencey.

The guitar was made in the USA, as well....anything made here, is constructed under all applicable laws, normally speaking, and cannot even be taxed when imported back into the country (proper documentation required).

You've got a few buds on here willing to take your back.
Its a few hours drive to KY for me...however I'm quite militant, and would probably do buisness in a style that would surely get your guitar, but would leave them calling you.

More than likely if you act passively-assertive no one will be required to show up. Keep me posted if you do need that.
All I need is gas $$.

Sounds crazy... but it is crazy from thier end as well.
Fight fire with fire...
