Re: Fellow Metalheads, How Do You Tune?

have no idea whether I count in as a metalhead, but all my guitars are in E. a couple of years back it was Eb, but nowadays I have them in standard tuning. I play in a rock coverband (at home mostly metal) but it is most convenient if everything is tuned in standardtuning

[/ QUOTE ]So how do you install the 3 truss rods you need? I have various guitars in : E standard, Eb, drop D, drop Db, D, and drop C. I also have a cheap Essex 7-string tuned to drop A; it's the most practical way for me to deal with the 7th string. I don't even try to play otherartists' stuff on 7-string anyway, and I like the drop Deffect, so it gives me a guitar with a similar but much downtuned effect, with a guitar in standard E on the top (pitchwise) 6 strings.

Re: Fellow Metalheads, How Do You Tune?

I go all over. I use E when playing Jazz though. Most of the time I use D, sometimes a dropped C tuning, and when playing slayer some Droped Eb. Rarely anything else as my Vandy has somewhat of a short scale neck.

Hamer Archtop = standard E
DXMG & KV PRO = Eb

I just like the sound of Eb on 25 1/2" scale guitars. just a preference.
Hamer has 10s, Jacksons have 9.5s (aka 10 gauge set 6-5-4, & 9 guage set 3-2-1)
KV DM PRO, SLSXMG, RRXMG, DXMG, LP P90 Goldtop_GSP1101_RM4: JF SL-OD100_Randall RT2/50_Peavey 4x12 cab
I'm loving the Jaded Faith mods. Going Egnater Dual mod route: Voxless, SL-OD100, Brahma #39, QuickMod GT

it is D minor tuning, Dm the saddest of all keys, perfect for metal.

(j/k) I use the standard E most of the time.

Usually E, I have a baritone guitar if I want to play low tuned stuff.

Some one here mentioned C#.... well i tried it on my SL2hmah - with 9's and stock pick ups, and everything just seemed to come alive more, alot deeper in the low end but still bright, and lively up top! Much better for that metal chug!
