Re: Rant on parting out guitars

Nothing wrong with parting out a guitar.

      If someone can either,
A: make a BETTER guitar by combining bits and pieces from other ones, GREAT!

B: Make a few bucks on parts with what might otherwise not be worth much in whole, MORE POWER TO HIM!

      For Ex.

I can get more by parting out my Model 2 than by selling it whole. Thats the reality.

If you wanna "save" it, then give me some decent $$$$ for it if I did sell it.

Otherwise yer just flappin yer gums an makin no sense.

      "Mini Rant Add-On"

I see people all the time goin on an on an on about "Model Series was just great!, Early imports Rock.. Way better than most other guitars today.. bla..bla..bla.."

The funny thing is, not ONE of those same people will actually part the $$$ to aquire one of these "gems" unless it's a fire-sale price.

I mean, will someone give me $350.00 for my Model 2? somehow.. I doubt it.

Yet that same person may walk into GC and buy and Ibanez or ESP with half the craftsmanship for almost TWICE the $$$

And yes, some of them may be the EXACT SAME PEOPLE WHO PRAISE MY GUITAR!"

      Sorry rant off.

P.S. My guitar is NOT for sale.

Re: Rant on parting out guitars

Parting out guitars is something most of us here will never agree on.
Now unlike their SD cousins(which parting one out, I think is a crime punishable by tap dancing on your peepee with golf shoes) the Model series are fairly abundant. So when I see a well used worn out Model series guitar being parted out I look and see if there is anything I need. Yes you will make more in parts than for a whole beater guitar.

With that being said I hate to see super clean unmodded guitars parted out. Like the white model 4 on ebay. It is super clean, that one would have made more being sold whole in my opinion. The Red Model 1C is also super clean, and lets face it you don't see many Model 1C's to begin with.

Don't forget the Red Model 6 that went for over $800 a couple of years ago, it looked brand new. The Black 86 Model 3A that still had the clear film over the pick guard, I think it cleared $500. There are more I just can't remember all of them. When you break apart your used model
2 do you think you'll get over $400 in parts like the super clean Red 86 model 2 from a couple of weeks ago? I don't think you will.

As Newc said if it wasn't for some of those guys who part out guitars, where could I get parts for a Kahler Fulcrum? Or put a reverse head neck on a Model 2? Sadly they do fill a niche and because of that they will continue to part out good guitars for profit. Whether we agree or not.

I hate it when I see hard to find guitars modded in a irreversible way. There are nine billion guitars out there with some type of Floyd Rose trem. Why do you have to take one of three Kahler equipped guitars and slap a Floyd on it?

Do most of you guys feel that Kahlers suck? right now a lot of people are parting out low to medium grade guitars that are equipted with top loading Kahlers such as Flyers and these trems are bringing up to 100 bucks, 80 being pretty common. making parting these things out a pretty good investment. I agree with the concept of keeping a nice or collectable guitar intact, same for the puppy, but I see no harm in parting out a "dog".

Re: Rant on parting out guitars

The issue is way beyond parting up guitars. The issue is simply this: when you sell any commodity to someone it's no longer yours. They could blow up your precious guitar in a nuclear fire blast, tough shit. They could bury your "under-rated" instrument in a tar seep. Tough shit. If you're gonna sell ANYTHING you've lost all the rights as to what can happen to it.

When I sold my "beloved" Model 4 on eBay, the dude who bought it said he loved it. A few weeks later he emails me pictures of him "playing" it at a show. Actually, he was burning it ala Hendrix. This near mint Charvel Model 4 was on fire!!! In his emailed pictures!!! Watchyougonnado?

Feelin' like I shoulda kept my feet on the ground
Waitin' for the sun to appear..."

Re: Rant on parting out guitars

I can see the arguements on both sides, but if I had an extreemly rare 3000 dollar guitar that they only made let's say 15 of. Like the PMS Bich... and I was being kicked out of my house and needed money so I sold it on ebay and some cock decided he could make 150$ off of it by butchering it and selling the parts than I'd be pissed.

Of course theres nothing ILLEGAL about this, but there's nothing illegal about cheating on your wife either... It's just the wrong thing to do.

I guess it's the romantic in me, but there's something bordering on sacred about a good guitar.

If the thing sounds bad or plays bad--mod it, part it, burn it, or use it to shovel your drive.

Yea I guess it's not a good comparison...

Cuz I'd probly cheat on my wife LONG before I'd part out a PMS Bich.

These things are just guitars dudes. Play em, part em out, wreck them, it doesnt matter. Theyre just tools. Its like some of the guys who are afraid to get a scratch on their guitar. Who gives a shit if its scratched?, and who gives a shit if a guitar gets parted out? There will always be another guitar for you to play with. Guitars aint dinosaurs..........
