Hello everyone........Bit of a two part question. I am a big jackson/charvel fan, but i have recently been let down. I bought a Charvel earlier this year, but cant seem to find a model name. Question 1: Its got a natural quilted top, Mahogany body, 24 fret ebony fretboard, bolt-on birdseye maple neck, liscenced floyd, Seymour duncan humbucker in the bridge, and two hot rails? single coils in the middle and neck. What is this guitar? Question 2: The quality is lower than expected for the healthy price tag. The frets are all over the place, so i cant get the action low enough. Anyway......i was curious if anyone has any other recent let downs like this, and if its worth a re-fret. Cheers

Re: Argh......Low quality, High price........
Could either be a San Dimas ReIssue from 95/96 or a more recent Charvel Standard from the late 90's/early 2000.
Birdseye neck with quilted top makes me think it's an SDRI. What's the serial number, or does it say Made In USA?I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

From the description, I think it's probably a Model A Plus.

Re: Argh......Low quality, High price........
Were the frets in this condition when you bought it? If you've only had it for a few months, this might seem unlikely, but a major humidity change can mess with frets quite a bit. I bought a new KV2 in 2002 that arrived in the expected brand-new condition. Within a year, with only a few hours of play, it needed the frets leveled due to a major humidity increase causing some of the frets to raise out of the fretboard.
Take it to a tech for a fret dress, and depending on your climate, buy a humidifier or dehumidifier. I had three guitars with fret problems or hairline cracks in the ebony before getting smart and buying a dehumidifier.

Re: Argh......Low quality, High price........
I have owned 3 Model A's and all of them played well. I kept one and it has a killer ebony board and a thick curly maple top. The action on it is killer, I bought it over a year ago and it is a lot of bang for the buck.

Yeah, but he said it's got a licensed Floyd. Those had Original Floyds or Wilkinsons... some 3 single coil models had vintage-type trems.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

I didn't know fretboard cracks could result from too MUCH humidity. I thought that only happened when fretboards became too dry.
