• newbie confusion ??

Ok I joined the other day and have really enjoyed reading all the posts and conversation, BUT I'm slightly confused on a couple of things.
1- I don't understand all the model designations for teh Jackson guitars example SLS , SL1, SL2H, SLATQH. JS series, MG series etc etc etc...
Is there a simple meaning to these and what is a good way to recognise a certain model when you see it say on ebay or in a guitar store?

I hope this isn't a stupid question but with all the different models at there currently and made in the past it gets a bit confusing

Thanks for any help or where to look and get schooled.

You need a catalog.
Jackson Website is bit confusing as they use SL1 picture for SL1T and need to update.

Re: newbie confusion ??

Well, here's a few tips:

Soloists:
SL = Soloist body
1 = H/S/S pickup config
H = H/H pickup config
T = Non-trem (sounds backwards, but it's true)
AT = arch-top
Q=Quilt top

So an SL2H is a Soloist body, with 2 humbuckers.
SLATQH = Soloist Arch Top Quilted with humbuckers
SL1T = Soloist body, H/S/S, non-trem

Other models do not necessarily follow this convention. For example, an RR1 has 2 hums, not H/S/S.

For some of the models, the number indicates country of origin (RR1, RR2, KE1, KE2 = made in USA. KE3, RR3, RR5 = Made in Japan).

What's even more confusing is there were some older models that the T did stand for trem... like the Rhoads PS3T or the Kelly PS6T.

I think the "T" refers to Tunamatic Bridge....

There is no group of more educated guys on this subject than on this forum!

Read and learn.

I've been here for a month or so, and you'll start to get the details down.

So I figure I'll know 50% of this stuff by the year 2007.

Re: newbie confusion ??

To add to the letter designations:

RR = Rhoads model
KV = King V model
WR = Warrior model
DX or DK = Dinky model (import)

Some of the imports have an MG designation after the model letters (i.e. DXMG). The MG designates that it came w/ EMG HZ pickups (passive EMG's).
KV DM PRO, SLSXMG, RRXMG, DXMG, LP P90 Goldtop_GSP1101_RM4: JF SL-OD100_Randall RT2/50_Peavey 4x12 cab
I'm loving the Jaded Faith mods. Going Egnater Dual mod route: Voxless, SL-OD100, Brahma #39, QuickMod GT

I think T rather stands for "not the usual bridge".
If the guitar model had a trem originally, the fixed bridge version gets a T appended to its name, and vice versa.

Consider the SLATQH: SL-AT-Q-H (Soloist-ArchTop-Quilt-Humbucker), yet it has no added T for the bridge. I think this may be because this particular Soloist version came with the tunamatic from the start(?).

Anyway, that's a theory I've picked up here. =)

One thing that's confused me for a while...what makes an SLS an SLS? Is it the shorter scale? The headstock?

Well, then there's the DK1 which is the USA Dinky. The first DK1s also had 22 frets and were H/S/S with Duncans. After being discontinued in the late '90s, they brought it back with 24 frets and H/H (EMG 81/85).
